The Soldier is the second album led by American jazz drummer Billy Higgins recorded in 1979 and released on the Dutch Timeless label. [2] Digitally remastered in 2015 the album was reissued on the Japanese label Solid Records in their Timeless Jazz Master Collection. [3]

He came to prominence as a member of drummer Art Blakey's band, The Jazz Messengers, before establishing a long career as a bandleader and composer.
