Cedar Anthony Walton, Jr. was an American hard bop jazz pianist. He came to prominence as a member of drummer Art Blakey's band before establishing a long career as a bandleader and composer. Several of his compositions have become jazz standards, including "Mosaic", "Bolivia", "Holy Land", "Mode for Joe" and "Fantasy in D".
Clifford Laconia Jordan was an American jazz tenor saxophone player. While in Chicago, he performed with Max Roach, Sonny Stitt, and some rhythm and blues groups. He moved to New York City in 1957, after which he recorded three albums for Blue Note. He recorded with Horace Silver, J.J. Johnson, and Kenny Dorham, among others. He was part of the Charles Mingus Sextet, with Eric Dolphy, during its 1964 European tour.

Sonic Boom is an album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan, recorded on April 14 and 28, 1967 but not released on the Blue Note label until 1979. The 2003 CD reissue added seven tracks recorded on September 12 & October 10, 1969 which were first released on the original double LP edition of The Procrastinator. Therefore, the CD edition includes performances by Morgan with two line-ups: the first one with David Newman, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins, whilst the second features Julian Priester, George Coleman, Harold Mabern, Walter Booker and Mickey Roker.

Art Farmer Quintet at Boomers is a live album by Art Farmer recorded in New York in 1976 and originally released on the Japanese East Wind label. A second volume of recordings was released in 2003 on the Test of Time label. This quintet also presages the later, great, 1980s quintet Art Farmer kept, in that it presents us the regal front line of Art Farmer together with Clifford Jordan, a pairing first recorded in the late fifties in Horace Silver's band, but then crystallized in several magnificent, and more feted, recordings in the 1980s – really a high-point in all of Farmer's remarkably consistent discography. But here we get to hear them together in the 1970s, too – and it is most edifying. They would go on to even more pristine heights together, refining their ensemble concept. Not that there's anything lacking in this lesser-known, but fabulous, document of one of jazz's truly great partnerships.
