The second season of The Voice , the Australian reality talent show, premiered on 7 April 2013. [1] Season 1 coach, Keith Urban left the show and was therefore replaced by Ricky Martin. This is the last season to feature Delta Goodrem and Seal until they both return in Seasons 4 and 6, respectively.
Keith Lionel Urban is a New Zealand Australian singer, songwriter and record producer. In 1991, he released a self-titled debut album and charted four singles in Australia before moving to the United States the following year. He found work as a session guitarist before starting a band known as The Ranch, which recorded one studio album on Capitol Nashville and charted two singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Enrique "Ricky" Martín Morales is a Puerto Rican singer, actor and author. He is regarded as the king of latin pop. He holds dual American and Spanish citizenship. Martin began his career at age 12 with the all-boy pop group Menudo. After five years with the group, he released several Spanish-language solo albums throughout the 1990s. Since the beginning of his solo career in 1991, Ricky Martin has sold over 70 million albums, making him one of the best-selling latin music artists of all time. He also acted on stage and on TV in Mexico, where he achieved modest stardom. In 1994, he appeared on the US TV soap opera General Hospital, playing a Puerto Rican singer.
Delta Lea Goodrem is an Australian singer, songwriter, and actress. Born and raised in Sydney, New South Wales, she enrolled in dancing, acting, singing and piano classes at a young age. She began her career as a child actress, starring in various television shows. She rose to prominence in 2002 playing a shy school girl called Nina Tucker in the Australian soap opera Neighbours.
The season is part of the television franchise, The Voice and is based on a similar competition format in The Netherlands entitled The Voice of Holland . The winner receives a recording contract with Universal Music. [2] This season consists of four phases: the blind auditions, battle phase, followed by the showdowns and finally the live performance shows. [1] [3]
The Voice of Holland, also known as TVOH, is a Dutch reality television competition, created by John de Mol, airing on RTL 4. Since its first season in 2010, it has been hosted by Martijn Krabbé and Wendy van Dijk.
For the second season, during the battle rounds phase of the competition, opposing coaches have the ability to steal the singer that was sent home by the original coach. If more than one coach hits their buzzer to recruit the singer in question, it's up to the contestant to decide which coach he or she wants to work with. This format was first used in the third season of the American version of The Voice. [4]
The third season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on September 10, 2012 on NBC. NBC officially announced The Voice's renewal on May 13, 2012, during its 2012–13 upfront presentation, with the show returning as a fall series.
The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, it has aired fifteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.
Season 1 coaches Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden and Seal returned. It was announced in September 2012 that Keith Urban would not be returning as a coach for the second season, after accepting an offer to join the American Idol judging panel. [5] Following an extensive search process by producers, and constant media speculation [6] [7] on who would replace Urban, Ricky Martin was officially announced as the new coach in November 2012. [8] In response to joining the series, Martin paid tribute to Urban saying he was "humbled to be sitting in his chair". [8] Nine's Director of Television, Michael Healy stated that Martin would bring "huge experience" and be the "perfect addition" to the coaching panel, [9] with Goodrem, Madden and Seal all publicly expressing excitement at the news via their Twitter accounts. [10]
Joel Rueben Madden is the lead vocalist for the American pop punk band Good Charlotte, as well as a record producer, actor, DJ, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He is also part of the pop rock collaboration The Madden Brothers with his twin brother Benji Madden.
American Idol is an American singing competition television series created by Simon Fuller, produced by Fremantle USA and 19 Entertainment, and distributed by Fremantle North America. It initially aired on Fox from June 11, 2002, to April 7, 2016, for 15 seasons. On March 11, 2018, the sixteenth season debuted on ABC.
Mentors for the second season were announced on 1 March 2013 as Ryan Tedder, Jessica Mauboy, Ben Lee and Connie Mitchell, who teamed up with Goodrem, Martin, Madden and Seal respectively. [11]
Ryan Benjamin Tedder is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. As well as being the lead vocalist of the pop rock band OneRepublic, he has an independent career as a songwriter and producer for various artists, including Adele, Backstreet Boys, Beyoncé, Big Time Rush, Camila Cabello, Charlie Puth, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Foster the People, Hailee Steinfeld, Hilary Duff, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Logic, Maroon 5, MØ, One Direction, Paul McCartney, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, U2, Westlife, and Zedd.
Jessica Hilda Mauboy is an Australian R&B and pop singer, songwriter and actress. Born and raised in Darwin, Northern Territory, Mauboy rose to fame in 2006 on the fourth season of Australian Idol; she became the runner-up and subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. After releasing a live album of her Idol performances and briefly being a member of the girl group Young Divas in 2007, Mauboy released her debut studio album, Been Waiting, the following year. It earned Mauboy her first number-one single "Burn", became the second highest-selling Australian album of 2009, and was certified double platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
Benjamin Michael Lee is an Australian musician and actor. Lee began his career as a musician at the age of 14 with the Sydney band Noise Addict, but focused on his solo career when the band broke up in 1995. He appeared as the protagonist in the Australian film The Rage in Placid Lake (2003). He has released eleven solo studio albums.
Darren McMullen returned as host for the second season, while Faustina Agolley also returned as social media correspondent. [1]
