The sixth season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on February 24, 2014, [1] on NBC. Carson Daly returned to host. Reality television genre of television programming that documents unscripted situations and actual occurrences

Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unknown individuals rather than professional actors. Reality television came to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the global successes of the series Survivor, Idols, and Big Brother, all of which became global franchises. Reality television shows tend to be interspersed with "confessionals", short interview segments in which cast members reflect on or provide context for the events being depicted on-screen. Competition-based reality shows typically feature gradual elimination of participants, either by a panel of judges or by the viewership of the show.

Talent show event, television or radio program that focuses on the potential audition of singers, dancers, models and the like

A talent show is an event in which participants perform the arts of singing, dancing, lip-syncing, acting, martial arts, playing an instrument, or other activities to showcase skills. Many talent shows are performances rather than contests, but some are actual contests. In the instance of a contest, participants may be motivated to perform for a reward, trophy, or prize of some kind. For example, a high school might not have many students with any interest in performing in front of the student body for the sole purpose of performing alone and may offer different prizes as an incentive for these students to participate in the contest.

The Voice (U.S. TV series) American talent competition series

The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, it has aired fifteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.

Contents

Josh Kaufman was announced as the winner of the season, marking Usher's first win as a coach.

Joshua Kaufman is an American soul singer and singer-songwriter. A native of the Tampa Bay area in Florida, Kaufman is based out of and resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is best known for winning the sixth season of NBC's The Voice as a member of Usher's team and previously Adam Levine's team. At age 38 he became the oldest winner in series history.

Coaches and hosts

The coaching panel once again saw a change as Adam Levine and Blake Shelton were rejoined by season four coaches Shakira and Usher. Christina Aguilera took another hiatus from the show and CeeLo Green departed at the end of season five. Carson Daly returned as host. [2] It was reported that Christina Milian, who served as the social media correspondent in seasons two through four, was open to returning, [3] but ultimately did not. Josh Kaufman was the first stolen contestant to win the show.

Adam Levine American singer-songwriter

Adam Noah Levine is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He is the lead singer for the pop rock band Maroon 5. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Levine began his musical career in 1994, when he co-founded the band Kara's Flowers, of which he was the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band split up after their only album, The Fourth World, which did not gain popularity. In 2001, the group was reformed – with guitarist James Valentine joining the line-up – and began a new musical chapter, changing their name to Maroon 5. In 2002, the band released their first album, Songs About Jane, which went multi-platinum in the US. Since then, they have released five more albums: It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), Overexposed (2012), V (2014), and Red Pill Blues (2017). As part of Maroon 5, Levine has received three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and a World Music Award.

Blake Shelton American country music singer and television personality

Blake Tollison Shelton is an American country singer, songwriter and television personality. In 2001, he made his debut with the single "Austin". The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, "Austin" spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified debut album also produced two more top 20 entries. Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, he was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed in late 2001.

The Voice (U.S. season 4) season of the US television series

The fourth season of the American reality talent show The Voice premiered on March 25, 2013, on NBC and was hosted by Carson Daly, while Christina Milian returned as the social media correspondent. Coaches Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton returned, though Green and Aguilera appeared as performers instead of coaches. Two new coaches Shakira and Usher served as replacement coaches for Aguilera and Green. The team sizes were trimmed back down to 12 per team, with each coach having two 'steals' in the Battle Rounds.

Artists serving as mentors for the first Battle Rounds included Miranda Lambert (who previously appeared in the second season in the series as an advisor) for Team Shakira, [4] The Band Perry for Team Blake, [5] Jill Scott for Team Usher, [6] and Aloe Blacc for Team Adam. [7]

Their second album, Pioneer, was released April 2, 2013. It produced additional number one singles in "Better Dig Two" and "Done", plus the top 10 hits "Don't Let Me Be Lonely" and "Chainsaw". The band transitioned to pop in 2017 and began to release music independently in 2018.

With the replacement of the Knockout Round with the "Battles, Round 2", Coldplay frontman Chris Martin served as the sole advisor for all four teams. [8]

Week 3: Quarterfinals (May 5 & 6)

The Top 8 performed on Monday, May 5, 2014, with results broadcast Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Upcoming coaches for season seven, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams, performed "Hollaback Girl" and "Come Get It Bae" respectively. This week, three contestants were eliminated instead of two, thus there was a bottom four instead of a bottom three. Josh Kaufman and Christina Grimmie received the iTunes bonus multiplier, with their studio recordings of "I Can't Make You Love Me" and "How to Love" reaching the second and the fifth positions on the iTunes Top 200 Singles chart at the close of the voting window, respectively. [28] For the first time since the inclusion of the Instant Save in season five, a contestant was saved two consecutive weeks. The elimination of Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin and Delvin Choice was one of the most shocking eliminations in the history of the show, having three artists who had 4 chair turns, eliminated in the competition on the same week.

Week 5: Finale (May 19 & 20)

The Top 3 performed on Monday, May 19, 2014, with the season finale on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Performances in this round consist of a "fans choice" reprise performance of a song from earlier in the season, a duet with the respective coach, and a solo song. The final episode was preceded by a one-hour recap of the competitive performances, and included two hours of performances by this season's top 20 contestants, as well as guest performances from the likes of Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Tim McGraw, OneRepublic, and the announcement of the winner.

Because of a technical glitch in the iTunes system, all iTunes votes for the final episode were invalidated, with no net effect to the total outcome. [30]
