Related Triumph Daytona 675

The Triumph Street Triple is a naked or streetfighter motorcycle made by Triumph Motorcycles, first released towards the end of 2007. [2] The bike is closely modelled on the Speed Triple 1050 but uses a re-tuned inline three cylinder 675 cc engine from the Daytona 675 sport bike, which was released in 2006. [2] [3]



In 2007, a number of spy photos and speculative design drawings were reported in the motorcycle press, [4] with one magazine capturing a road test of the completed Street Triple. [5] Later articles reported on leaked design shots of the new bike. [6] A report on the showcasing of the finished bike to dealers was published on 6 March 2007, along with a spy video of a test ride. [7]

First generation (2007 - 2011)

The Triumph Street Triple was launched in 2007, to replace the 600 Speed Four. It shared the design of the modern Triumph naked models, introduced on the Speed Triple in 2005, with high-level double-barrel silencers, dual circular headlights with a dashboard unit mounted on the top. The biggest difference with the Speed Triple is the conventional swingarm, instead of the single-sided unit. The cycle parts are shared with the Triumph Daytona 675, mainly visible on the frame and swingarm. The 675cc triple cylinders engine, borrowed to the Daytona 675, is de-tuned to make it more street friendly and usable as a daily rider naked, but still powerful in the category with 79 kW (106 bhp) @ 11,750 rpm. Since the Daytona 675 engine is a triple cylinders, Triumph introduced a new naming instead of adding the displacement to the Speed Triple name, making it a brand new model in Triumph history.

Launched in 2008, the Street Triple R shares the same engine and chassis as the standard model but has fully adjustable suspension both front and rear which is shared with the Daytona. The revised rear suspension results in a slightly higher seat height over the standard model and sharper rake. The front brakes are also shared with the Triumph 675 Daytona, with a fully radial Nissin setup, master cylinder and calipers. It has other minor equipment differences over the standard bike in the way of handlebars, seat, and different colour schemes which were matte orange and matte grey. [8]

Second generation (2011 - 2012)

The Street Triple's circular headlights were changed to an angular shape for the 2012 model year, in line with the new identity of modern naked models, changed for the 2011 Speed Triple 1050 model. It was controversial at the time, because the circular headlights has been the identity of the modern naked models since 1997 and was quickly nicknamed the bugeye model from the bug like appearance the lights give the bike. The other changes includes redesigned side casings, brushed aluminum finish around the exhausts, black finish rear sets and revised stickers. The modifications were only cosmetics on both Street Triple and Street Triple R models, no changes were made on the engine, nor on the cycle parts. [9]

Third generation (2013 - 2017)

In 2013, Triumph remodeled the chassis of the Street Triple. It includes a new frame unit, which is still in aluminum, but with less parts and welds. The caster angle is narrower, from 24,3° (on the previous model) to 24,1°. The old tubular sub-frame is changed for a new aluminum cast sub-frame unit. The most distinctive modification is a new exhaust mounted underneath the engine, replacing the underseat exhaust from the previous version, moving the centre of mass forwards and down. Lighter rims are also mounted on the bike. All these modifications make the bike both lighter and more agile; total mass was reduced by 6 kg, which is the lightest generation of Street Triples. The engine remained unchanged while the 1st gear was made considerably taller by taking the gear ratios from the Daytona 675. The 675 Street Triple gains also new suspensions, new brake discs that can be assisted by a multi-mode disengageable ABS, a coded key, more space under the saddle, a dashboard enriched with a fuel gauge, an improved finish, new mirrors and a discreet modification at the base of the tank. [10]

The Street Triple R gains a red sub-frame and the caster angle is narrower from 23,9° (on the previous model) to 23,4°. The R model remains distinctive with 19mm radial master cylinder and radial 4 pistons brake calipers around 310mm discs. The suspensions with a 41mm inverted fork and separate reservoir shock are adjustable for rebound, compression and preload. A disconnectable and configurable is available as an option. . [11]

In February 2015 Triumph released the Street Triple Rx, based on the R model, with the angular seat unit from the Daytona 675, a quick-shifter and different colors (where the rims are red in any color scheme). [12]

Fourth generation (2018 -)

In January 2017, Triumph announced they would replace the 675 cc Street Triple with a new range of 765 cc (46.7 cu in) Street Triples. The model was released as a 2018 model. Despite having a capacity increase of 90 cc (5.5 cu in), the new models weigh slightly less than the first and second generations of 675 cc bike, and the engine casings are just as compact. This generation comes with four models in the range, the base model S, intermediate R, and the new highest specification named RS. Like previous models, the headlights styling is shared with the 2016 Speed Triple. As well as having different levels of equipment, such as brakes, suspension, and a quick shifter, the three models have different power outputs: 113 hp (84 kW) for the S, 118 hp (88 kW) for the R, and 123 hp (92 kW) for the RS. The fourth model is for the UK's A2 license, a 660 cc (40 cu in) version of the S will also be sold. [13] [14]

Mid cycle update (2020)

For 2020, the Street Triple was given a mid cycle update. The more track-oriented RS version was given minor changes to the intake and exhaust with no change in power output, and cosmetic changes to the mirrors and headlight. A 1.8 in (46 mm) lower seat height version, with a different seat and modified suspension, was added. [15] [16]

In 2010, Triumph launched the Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC, which use a longer stroke version of the Street Triple engine. [17]

Use in racing

Starting from 2019, the Moto2 class of World Championship racing has been powered by specially tuned Triumph-supplied 765 cc engines based on the Street Triple, replacing the engines that were previously based on the Honda CBR600RR from 2010 to 2018. A three-year contract extension to provide engines for seasons 2022-2024 was obtained in 2021. [18]

During 2021, the 765 engine was trialled in the British Supersport Championship which normally has a 675 capacity limit for three-cylinder engines. Together with models from Ducati and MV, engines with a larger capacity than previously are to be allowed into Supersport World Championship racing from 2022. [19] [20] [21]

Triumph Triple

The Triumph Triples are a family of modern DOHC inline three-cylinder motorcycle engines made from 1990 onwards by the Triumph Motorcycle Company at their Hinckley, Leicestershire factory. The inspiration for the later triples was the pushrod Triumph Trident, produced from 1968 to 1974 at the Triumph factory at Meriden Works.

A sportbike, or sports bike, is a motorcycle optimized for speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering on paved roads, typically at the expense of comfort and fuel economy by comparison with other motorcycles. Soichiro Honda wrote in the owner's manual of the 1959 Honda CB92 Benly Super Sport that, "Primarily, essentials of the motorcycle consists in the speed and the thrill," while Cycle World's Kevin Cameron says that, "A sportbike is a motorcycle whose enjoyment consists mainly from its ability to perform on all types of paved highway – its cornering ability, its handling, its thrilling acceleration and braking power, even its speed."

Honda CBR600RR Sport bike

The Honda CBR600RR is a 599 cc (36.6 cu in) motorbike made by Honda since 2003, part of the CBR series. The CBR600RR was marketed as Honda's top-of-the-line middleweight sport bike, succeeding the 2002 Supersport World Champion 2001–2006 CBR600F4i, which was then repositioned as the tamer, more street-oriented sport bike behind the technically more advanced and uncompromising race-replica CBR600RR. It carried the Supersport World Championship winning streak into 2003, and on through 2008, and won in 2010 and 2014.


Laverda was an Italian manufacturer of high performance motorcycles. The motorcycles in their day gained a reputation for being robust and innovative.

Triumph Speed Four British motorcycle

The Triumph Speed Four is a standard or streetfighter motorcycle made by Triumph from 2002 to 2006 as the naked, or non-faired brother of the TT600 sport bike introduced in 1999.

Triumph Daytona 675 British motorcycle

Introduced in 2006, the Triumph Daytona 675 is a three-cylinder sport bike, and the smallest of the Triumph triples. Built by Triumph Motorcycles, it replaced their four-cylinder Daytona 650. The 675 proved to be remarkably light, nimble and powerful; at a maximum of 128 bhp it was also very quick, and it was very successful against the Japanese 600 cc competition. In 2016, Triumph ceased production of the base model Daytona 675 citing diminishing demand for super sport bikes and increasingly strict European emission standards. Triumph continued to produce the up-spec Triumph Daytona 675R model until the 2018 model year. Triumph filed a new trademark for the Daytona, fuelling rumors that there may be a future version sporting the new 765 cc engine.

Triumph Speed Triple Series of motorcycles produced by Triumph Motorcycles

The Triumph Speed Triple is a series of motorcycles produced by Triumph Motorcycles. The 1994 Hinckley Triumph was one of the first motorcycles produced in the streetfighter style. The style originated with bikers who, having crashed their race replicas, put the bikes back on the road without fairing, and has since become popularised.

Kawasaki Z1 Advanced four cylinder motorcycle from 1972

The Kawasaki Z1 is a four-cylinder, air-cooled, double-overhead camshaft, carbureted, chain-drive motorcycle introduced in 1972 by Kawasaki. Following the introduction of Honda's CB750 in 1968, the Z1 helped popularize the in-line, across-the-frame four-cylinder, a format that became known as the Universal Japanese Motorcycle or UJM.

Triumph Sprint ST British motorcycle

The Triumph Sprint ST is a sport touring motorcycle manufactured in the United Kingdom by Triumph between 1999 and 2010. Sporting a 1050cc 4-stroke three-cylinder engine, an alloy-beam frame and a single-sided swingarm, the Sprint ST competed effectively in the market against the Honda VFR800. Supersport World Championship

The Supersport World Championship, abbrieviated to WorldSSP, is a motorcycle racing competition on hard-surfaced circuits, based on mid-sized sports motorcycles. Competition machines were originally based on production-based motorcycles with 600 cc to 750 cc engines, depending on the number of cylinders. After trials in UK national series British Supersport, from 2022 the regulations have changed to allow eligibility of larger-displacement engines, to relect the engine sizes being produced and encourage different manufacturers.

Triumph Motorcycles Ltd English motorcycle manufacturer

Triumph Motorcycles Ltd is the largest UK-owned motorcycle manufacturer, established in 1983 by John Bloor after the original company Triumph Engineering went into receivership. The new company, initially called Bonneville Coventry Ltd, continued Triumph's lineage of motorcycle production since 1902. They have major manufacturing facilities in Thailand.

British Supersport Championship is a support series to the British Superbike Championship (BSB) for engine capacities smaller than Superbike. British Supersport runs one or two rounds per weekend at each BSB event. The BSS championship is seen as a stepping stone for the younger talent to progress to the British Superbike Championship or to World level classes. Riders such as: Tom Sykes, Cal Crutchlow and Leon Camier all started off in this championship.

Yamaha MT-09

The Yamaha MT-09 is a Yamaha naked or standard motorcycle of the MT series with an 847–890 cc (51.7–54.3 cu in) liquid-cooled 4-stroke 12-valve DOHC inline-three engine with crossplane crankshaft, a lightweight cast alloy frame. For 2018, the bike is now designated MT-09 in all markets.

Magni (motorcycle)

Magni is an Italian company that builds specialist motorcycles. The company is based in the city of Samarate in the province of Varese. Magni, in addition to building the bikes that bear its name, is also active in the construction of specials to order and a supplier of special parts for the restoration of MV Agusta classic motorcycles.
