The San Diego Trolley is a light rail system operating in the metropolitan area of San Diego. It is known colloquially as "The Trolley". The Trolley's operator, San Diego Trolley, Inc. (SDTI), is a subsidiary of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). The Trolley began service on July 26, 1981, making it the oldest of the second-generation light rail systems in the United States. The Trolley system serves 62 stations, comprises 65 miles (105 km) of route, three primary lines that operate daily, and one heritage line that operates on a circuit of downtown on select days. In 2022, the Trolley had the fifth highest ridership of light rail systems in the United States, with 34,053,400 annual rides, or about 109,600 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2022.
UC San Diego Health is the academic health system of the University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California. It is the only academic health system serving San Diego and has one of only two adult Level I trauma centers in the region. In operation since 1966, it comprises UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest as well as Jacobs Medical Center, Moores Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, and Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion, all located in La Jolla. University City (UC) is a community in San Diego, California, located in the northwestern portion of the city next to the University of California, San Diego. University City is bordered by La Jolla and Interstate 5 to the west, Miramar and Interstate 805 to the east, and North Clairemont and Highway 52 to the south, giving the community a triangular-shaped boundary. The Orange Line is an 18.0-mile (29.0 km) light rail line in the San Diego Trolley system, operated by San Diego Trolley, Inc. an operating division of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. The route connects Downtown San Diego with the cities of Lemon Grove, La Mesa, and El Cajon. The Orange Line has the lowest ridership of the San Diego Trolley's three regular lines, transporting 10,896,289 riders during FY 2014 according to the MTS.
America Plaza is a station of the Blue and Silver Lines on the San Diego Trolley. It is located in the Downtown Core of San Diego, California, and is directly connected to One America Plaza, the city's tallest building. The station, and its accompanying 34-story high-rise building, opened on November 14, 1991, making the station the second infill station in the San Diego Trolley system.
Rapid is the brand name given to the bus rapid transit system in San Diego County, California. The system serves nearly half the county, operating mainly on the HOV lanes on Interstates 15 and 805, with most of the stops also served by other routes. In addition, there are stations, dubbed as CenterLine in the medians of Interstate 15, Park Boulevard in San Diego and on East Palomar Street in Chula Vista, that are designed in a similar manner to the light rail stations. The system operates with a dedicated fleet, although buses from the Mainline fleet are regularly substituted. The system is administered, built and managed by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and is operated as part of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS).

The Purple Line is a future San Diego Trolley line proposed by SANDAG, that would run from San Ysidro Transit Center at the United States–Mexico border to Kearny Mesa with a possible extension to Carmel Valley. It would run along or in the median of I-805 and I-15. Most of the proposed station locations are currently served by Rapid routes 225 and 235. The Purple Line could include up to 14 new Trolley stations, a new support facility and yard, and require the purchase of 60 additional Trolley cars to provide the needed level of service on the line. Projected ridership on the Purple Line is expected to be over 40,000 daily trips with a peak hour frequency of 7-10 minutes.
UTC Transit Center is a San Diego Trolley station and transportation hub in the University City district of San Diego, California. It is located at University Towne Center (UTC), the outdoor shopping mall after which the station is named. The station's elevated trolley platform is served by the Blue Line, and stands above Genesee Avenue at its intersection with Esplanade Court. Its at-grade bus plaza is built into the lower level of one of the mall's parking structures that includes 333 spaces that can be used by transit customers who pay an hourly fee.
Tecolote Road station is a San Diego Trolley station in San Diego, California. The station is located adjacent to the 5 Freeway/Tecolote Road interchange. It was developed as a station for the Mid-Coast Trolley extension project, which is an extension for the Blue Line. The station has 279 parking spaces.
Clairemont Drive station is an at-grade San Diego Trolley station in San Diego, California. The station platform is located on the westside of Morena Boulevard where the tracks are, while the parking structure will be built across the street on the eastside of Morena between Ingulf Street and Clairemont Drive. Service began on November 21, 2021 after the completion of the Blue Line Mid-Coast Trolley extension project.
