V is an energy drink brand produced by Frucor Suntory, a New Zealand-based beverage manufacturer. It was launched in Methven, New Zealand in August 1997 and in Australia in 1999. The product's success, a market share over 60% in New Zealand [1] [ needs update ] and 42% in Australia, [2] makes it the most popular brand of energy drink in both countries. V is considered a local rival to Red Bull. [3] Frucor says V energy drinks are not intended for children, and they are not recommended for pregnant women or people sensitive to caffeine. [4]

Variants

V Energy (also referred to as "Green V" [5] ) is the original flavour of V released in 1997.

Blue (also referred to as "Blue V") is a pineapple and passion fruit flavour introduced in October 2011 [6] [7] which V challenges the drinker to try and work out the flavour. [8] V Sugar Free Blue and V Zero Sugar Blue (as of August 2023) are also currently available.

V Black was a flavour variant that was discontinued in 2013. V Black was re-released in 2018 for a limited time in New Zealand over a 6-week period. [9] It was described as having a strong coffee flavour. [10]

V Pure is a flavour alternative released in 2016 coming from 6 Natural Ingredients; apple juice, sparkling water, lemon juice, Guarana seed extract, caffeine from green coffee beans and natural V flavour. [11]

V added a second Sugar Free flavour in 2018, themed after summer and the tropics. This product replaced V Zero. [1]

V Tortured Orchard Raspberry Lemonade was introduced in 2018. [12] [13] In 2020, this flavour was brought back as a permanent edition and rebranded to 'V Raspberry Lemonade'.

The V Energy Refresh line released in 2022, is available in three flavours: Citrus Lemonade, Pineapple & Watermelon, and Green Apple Lemonade (All Zero sugar).

V Tropical Tang was released in May 2023 and is described as "guava, pineapple and berries". However, the new addition is currently only available in 500ml cans. [14]

V Energy Shots

The energy shots (described as "Pocket Rockets") are claimed to be as effective as the larger cans but have an extremely bitter taste that, according to the V Pocket Rocket website, is to stop young children from drinking them. [15]

V Iced Drinks

In 2018, V released 2 Iced Coffee and 2 Iced Chocolate drinks to the New Zealand and Australian Market. [16]

The drink sponsored I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in the UK for its second series in 2003. [17]

In April 2018, V together with donut store chain Donut King released in Australia a V flavoured donut. The donut was sold through Donut King stores nationwide and contained a gooey Guarana filling and covered in green sugar crystals. [18]

V sponsored Back of the Y Masterpiece Television in the mid-2000s.

Its advertising slogan was "Lucozade aids recovery". It was sold mostly in pharmacies up until the 1980s before it was more readily available as a sports drink in shops across the UK.

Energy Brands, also doing business as Glacéau, is a privately owned subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company based in Whitestone, Queens, New York, that manufactures and distributes various lines of drinks marketed as enhanced water. Founded in May 1996 by J. Darius Bikoff with an electrolyte enhanced line of water called Smartwater, Energy Brands initially distributed its products to health food stores and independent retailers in the New York area. Adding Fruitwater and Vitaminwater to its line in 1998 and 2000, respectively, the company expanded to nationwide distribution in the early 2000s.

Four Loko is a line of alcoholic beverages sold by Phusion Projects of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Four Loko's recipe formerly included caffeine. Phusion operates as Drink Four Brewing Company. Four Loko, the company's most popular beverage, debuted in the United States market in 2005 and is available in 49 states, and in 21 countries including Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, The Bahamas, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, China, Canada and some countries in Europe. Mother is an energy drink that originated in Australia and New Zealand by Coca-Cola. Introduced in late 2006 after Coca-Cola's failed attempt to purchase Red Bull, it competes with the two leading energy drinks on the market, V and Red Bull, in the $151 million industry.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Beaver Buzz</span> Canadian energy drink brand

Beaver Buzz is an energy drink line produced in Canada Double D Beverage Co. of British Columbia, under the brand of Canadian Beaver Buzz Energy. The beverages include taurine, caffeine, Siberian Ginseng, Guarana seed extract and various vitamins, and uses cane sugar instead of commonly used high fructose corn syrup. Product variations include Citrus, Green tea, Saskatoon berry, Root Beer, Black Currant, Original, Pineapple Mango, and Canadian Punch flavours. Beaver Buzz contains 180 mg caffeine in a standard 473 ml can.

The product originates from New Zealand, and is produced by Asahi Premium Beverages, formerly known as Independent Liquor.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nae Danger</span>

Nae Danger is an energy drink from Scotland. It is claimed to be the first and only carbonated energy drink to have been created, branded and manufactured in Scotland, which is contested with IrnBru32 which was released in 2006 by A.G. Barr. Released in August 2012, the drink is a creation of Ross Gourlay, a Scottish entrepreneur from Bishopbriggs. Gourlay hoped to gain a slice of the growing caffeinated drinks market and also encourage recognisable Scottish brands within the UK. There are two main flavours: Blue Raspberry and Red Blueberry.

Zooper Doopers are a brand of flavoured frozen ice pole product from Australia. They generally come in a plastic tube packaging as a liquid. They are then frozen at home in the household freezer. Zooper Doopers are somewhat of a cultural icon and have been popular since they first appeared in 1971. They are produced by the Bega Dairy & Drinks, division of the Bega Cheese company.
