Velammal Engineering College was established in 1995 by the Velammal Educational Trust, founded by Thiru. M.V. Muthuramalingam. The Trust, which was initiated in 1986, sought to provide quality technical education and instill discipline in Tamil Nadu's student community. The college holds the distinction of being the first private engineering college in the region to attain ISO 9001:2000 certification.
