The SVNS, known as the HSBC SVNS for sponsorship reasons, is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments run by World Rugby featuring national sevens teams. Organised for the first time in the 1999–2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series, the competition was formed to promote an elite-level of international rugby sevens and develop the game into a viable commercial product. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2014.

Sevens is one of the most well distributed forms of rugby, and is popular in parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and especially in the South Pacific.
Spain's national rugby sevens team is one of 15 core teams participating in all ten tournaments of the World Rugby Sevens Series, having qualified by winning the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens qualifier tournament. Spain participated as a core team in the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series, but was relegated the following season.
The Hong Kong women's sevens rugby union team represents Hong Kong at an international level and plays at the Hong Kong Women's Sevens and other international sevens tournaments.

Kalione Nasoko is the current captain of the Fiji national rugby sevens team to the 2018 Oceania Sevens Championship and the 2018 Dubai Sevens. Nasoko was awarded player of the final at the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens Tournament where Fiji beat the South Africa Sevens Team 22-0. Nasoko made his debut for Fiji at the 2016 Dubai Sevens.

Teams on the respective men's and women's tours of the Challenger Series compete for promotion to the first tier as a core team.
The 2021 World Rugby Sevens Series was the 22nd annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999. Due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, only two tournaments were played in the 2021 series instead of the usual ten. The number of teams participating was also reduced from sixteen to twelve at the tournaments, with many of the top teams from the previous series not taking part.
The 2023–24 SVNS is the 25th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national sevens teams, known as the World Rugby Sevens Series (SVNS). It is taking place between December 2023 and June 2024. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999. It is the first season in which the series format changed.
The 2023–2024 season will be the inaugural season of the World Rugby SVNS Series now legacy World Sevens Series. The new combined men and women's tournaments will begin in December 2023 in Dubai and will travel to several cities across the world such as Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore and will conclude in Madrid in June 2024.
The 2024 Challenger Series for men's rugby sevens teams is the fourth season of the second-tier circuit that allows a promotion pathway to the SVNS.
