Miss Universe is an annual international major beauty pageant that is run by a United States and Thailand-based Miss Universe Organization. Along with Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth, it is one of the Big Four beauty pageants.
Miss Puerto Rico is a national title bestowed on the women representing Puerto Rico in international beauty pageants. Currently, Miss Universe Puerto Rico selects the representative for Miss Universe, Miss World Puerto Rico for Miss World, Miss Earth Puerto Rico for Miss Earth and Miss Global, Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico(Our Beauty Puerto Rico) for Miss International, Miss Supranational, and Miss Grand International. No pageant is held to select the representative for Miss Intercontinental, with the delegate usually being selected from the group of semifinalists in Miss World Puerto Rico. Since 2023, Puerto Rico is the only nation to have won all eight international beauty pageants. Not including Miss Intercontinental and Miss Global, Puerto Rico is also the only country to have won the other six pageants, which are known as the Grand Slam, as they are considered the most prestigious. With 16 major titles won as of 2023, Puerto Rico is recognized as a powerhouse in the industry of beauty pageants, alongside Venezuela, Philippines, United States, and India.
Michelle McLean is a Namibian actress, writer, model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 1992 in Thailand. McLean was 19 years old when she was crowned Miss Universe, and became the first Namibian woman to win the title. McLean had been crowned Miss Namibia 1991 before Miss Universe, and also placed as the fourth runner-up at Miss World 1991.
