Ada Aimée de la Cruz Ramírez (born June 15, 1986, in Villa Mella) is a Dominican model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2009 and placed 1st Runner-Up at Miss Universe 2009. [1]

Biography

She first came to fame as Miss Dominican Republic World 2007, where she placed in the top 16 at Miss World 2007 and was Miss World Beach Beauty 2007. She later was crowned Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2009. [2] She represented the original home of her grandparents, the Province of San José de Ocoa and represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 2009 gaining high praise and finishing as First Runner Up.

Ada was born in Villa Mella and raised in Villa Altagracia and returned to Santo Domingo at the age of 14, lives with her mother Ana Martínez Ramírez, grandparents Celeste Ramírez and Ventura Garabito, her younger brother Adrián and her little cousin. In the Dominican press, she is known as a Dominican Cinderella, in which her grandmother was a maid and her whole family grew up poor.

Pageantry and Modeling

She also competed in the Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2007, where she remained among the Top 10 semifinalists. She has participated in international gateways, such as Miami Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, Dominicana Moda, among others.

Miss World 2007

Ada is the first Dominican to win the Miss World Beach Beauty. She placed in the final top 16 at Miss World 2007.

Miss Universe 2009

In the competition, Ada was awarded the 2nd best body in the swimsuit competition in Miss Universe 2009. On August 23, 2009, during the final ceremony, Ada received the highest scores in the evening gown and the second highest in the swimsuit competitions. She walked in her gown to which judges awarded a 9.428. In swimsuit, she was awarded 9.189, despite achieving the highest overall score, de la Cruz was the eventual first runner up. Same situation happened one year before in Miss Universe 2008 with Taliana Vargas.

She is one of only nine former Miss World semifinalists to place in the Miss Universe semifinals, the others being Michelle McLean of Namibia in 1992, Christine Straw of Jamaica in 2004, Yendi Phillipps also of Jamaica in 2010, Patricia Yurena Rodríguez of Spain in 2013, Olivia Jordan of the USA in 2015, Catriona Gray of the Philippines in 2018, and Julia Gama of Brazil and Andrea Meza of Mexico both in 2020 (coincidentally de la Cruz, Phillips, Rodriguez, and Gama all finished as 1st Runner-Up).

Villa Mella, or San Felipe de Villa Mella, is a municipality in Santo Domingo Norte, Dominican Republic. Villa Mella is located north of the Isabela River, about 6 miles to the north of the center of Santo Domingo, and is considered an additional neighborhood of the capital. This sector is considered one of the economically stable areas in the Santo Domingo metropolitan area. It is also home to the musical organization known as the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit of the Congos of Villa Mella, recognized in 2001 by UNESCO.

Rocio García Báez was crowned Miss Azúcar and represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 1969 pageant. The First Runner-up Sandra Simoné Cabrera Cabral won the Miss Café title and represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss World 1969. The Second Runner-up was Andreita Grullón Luna won the Miss Merengue Title participated at the annual Fair of the Chinita. in Venezuela. Señorita República Dominicana 1968 was held on January 24, 1968. There were 24 candidates who competed for the national crown. The winner represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 1968. The Virreina al Miss Mundo entered Miss World 1968. Only 25 provinces and one municipality entered. The top 10 wore their evening gowns and answered questions so they could go to the top from which five were selected.

The Miss Mundo Dominicana 2007 pageant was held on July 14, 2007. Only 24 candidates competed for the national crown. The chosen winner represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss World 2007. The 10th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Teatro del Arte of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico on September 5, 2003. Thirty-eight contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Rosalva Luna from Sinaloa, who later competed in Miss Universe 2004 in Ecuador where she was a Semifinalist in the Top 15. Luna was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Marisol González. She was the first Sinaloense to win this Title.

The 18th annual Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Centro Internacional de Convenciones of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico on August 20, 2011. Thirty-four contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Karina González from Aguascalientes who later competed in Miss Universe 2012 in United States where she was a Semifinalist in the Top 10. González was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Karin Ontiveros and Ximena Navarrete Miss Universe 2010. She was the first Hidrocalida to win this title.

The 4th Runner-Up was Analíz de la Cruz who will compete in Miss Globe International 2014. Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler assisted in the crowning of Miss Dominican Republic 2014.

Kímberly Marie Jiménez Rodríguez is a Dominican-Puerto Rican actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Dominican Republic 2020. As Miss Dominican Republic, Jiménez represented the Dominican Republic at Miss Universe 2020, where she placed fourth runner-up.
