Local elections were held for provincial and municipal posts throughout the Philippine archipelago starting May 7, 1899. The first local elections under the American occupation were held in Baliuag, Bulacan, supervised by US General Henry W. Lawton (General Field Order No. 8). Francisco Guererro was elected the First Presidente Municipal.

There are four types of elections in Finland. Each Finnish citizen at least 18 years of age has the right to vote in each of the elections, which decide the following: the president, the parliament, the MEPs, and the municipal and city councils.
The Mayor of Christchurch is the head of the municipal government of Christchurch, New Zealand, and presides over the Christchurch City Council. The mayor is directly elected using a First Past the Post electoral system. The current mayor, Phil Mauger, was elected in the 2022 mayoral election. The current deputy mayor is Pauline Cotter.
Elections in the Philippines are of several types. The president, vice-president, and the senators are elected for a six-year term, while the members of the House of Representatives, governors, vice-governors, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, mayors, vice-mayors, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod/members of the Sangguniang Bayan, barangay officials, and the members of the Sangguniang Kabataan are elected to serve for a three-year term.
A series of municipal elections were held on March 5, 2003, to elect City and Town Councils in the Cities of Belize and Belmopan and the towns of Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, Dangriga and Punta Gorda. 142 candidates ran in this election, of whom 25% were women.
A county council is the highest governing body of a county municipality (fylkeskommune) in Norway. The county council sets the scope of the county municipal activity. The council is led by the Chairman of the County Council, more commonly called a County Mayor (fylkesordfører). Members of the council are elected for a four-year term through the general local elections. It is common for members of a county council to also hold seats in municipal councils, but very rare that they also hold legislative (Storting) or other government office, without a leave of absence.
Local elections were held in Romania in late May 2004 and a runoff for mayors in early June 2004.
Elections in Indiana are held to fill various local, state and federal seats. Special elections may be held to fill vacancies at other points in time.

The 2011 Spanish local elections were held on Sunday, 22 May 2011, to elect all 68,230 councillors in the 8,116 municipalities of Spain and all 1,040 seats in 38 provincial deputations. The elections were held simultaneously with regional elections in thirteen autonomous communities, as well as local elections in the three foral deputations of the Basque Country and the eleven island councils in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Local elections were held across Syria on 12 December 2011 to elect 17,629 councillors in 1,355 administrative units. Some 42,000 candidates contested the elections. The election took place on the second day of an opposition called general strike, with the Arab and Kurdish opposition boycotting the election. The Syrian government claimed the elections were a success and enjoyed a high turnout, however turnout in many parts of the country was seen as low.
Local elections were held in Sweden on 14 September 2014 to elect county councils and municipal councils. The elections were held alongside general elections.
Uruguay held local government elections on May 10, 2015, electing the intendente of the 19 departments that are the administrative divisions of Uruguay, as well as 112 local governments.
Elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are conducted in accordance with the Constitution of India to elect the representatives of various bodies at national, state and district levels including the 114 seat unicameral Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Parliament of India. The first elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir took place between 28 November and 19 December 2020 in the form of by-elections to District Development Councils and municipal and panchayat level bodies. A fresh delimitation process for assembly constituencies began in February-March 2020.
Municipal elections were held on 19 March 2014 in most municipalities in the Netherlands. This election determines the composition of the municipal councils for the following four years.
In France, a mayor is chairperson of the municipal council, which organises the work and deliberates on municipal matters. The mayor also has significant powers and their own responsibilities, such as the responsibility for the activities of municipal police and for the management of municipal staff.
Howrah Municipal Corporation is the local government of the city of Howrah, West Bengal, India. It is the second largest municipal corporation and urban area in the state. This civic administrative body administers an area of 63.55 square kilometres (24.54 sq mi) now.
Elections to the local bodies in Uttarakhand, India, are conducted once in five years to elect the representatives to the urban and rural local bodies. These elections are conducted by the Uttarakhand State Election Commission and were mandated by the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act to ensure local government in urban and rural areas.
The 1934 Catalan local elections were held on 14 January to elect the municipal councils in all the 1,029 municipalities of Catalonia. These elections were only held in Catalonia, as the 1932 Statute of Autonomy devolved the competences on local elections to the Generalitat de Catalunya. These were the first and only election to be organised by the Catalan Government, since this administration was suppressed by the Dictatorship of Francisco Franco in 1939, after winning the Spanish Civil War. The following free local elections were not held until 1979, during the transition to democracy.
Local elections were held in Iran on 15 October 1976 to elect the members of 435 municipal councils, 162 city and town councils, and 238 regional educational councils. They were the first local elections to be held during rule of the one-party state under the Resurgence Party.
