The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was an autonomous region of the Philippines, located in the Mindanao island group of the Philippines, that consisted of five predominantly Muslim provinces: Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. It was the only region that had its own government. The region's de facto seat of government was Cotabato City, although this self-governing city was outside its jurisdiction.

The Shariff Kabunsuan creation plebiscite was a plebiscite on the creation of the Province of Shariff Kabunsuan in the Philippines. The plebiscite was conducted on October 28, 2006 and results were announced on October 31, 2006.

General elections were held for the first time on February 12, 1990, in the newly created Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for the regional governor and vice governor.

ARMM Regional Assembly, also known as ARMM Regional Legislative Assembly, was the devolved unicameral regional legislature of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). It was known as the "Little Congress" of the ARMM.

General elections are held in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for the posts of Regional Governor and Vice-Governor on March 25, 1993. The Lakas-NUCD-UMDP party won a majority of the positions during the election.

Habib Tupay T. Loong was a Filipino politician who was a representative of Sulu's 1st congressional district in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). He is the older brother of Ben Tupay Loong, the current vice-governor, and himself served as Governor of Sulu for three terms. Together the "Loong Brothers" constitute a formidable political force in Sulu.

Mujiv Sabbihi Hataman is a Filipino indigenous people's rights advocate and politician from the indigenous Yakan people of the Sulu Archipelago. He became nationally prominent when he served as the sixth and last regional governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from 2011 until it was replaced by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2019.

Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. is the present governor of the Province of Lanao del Sur. He was born to a powerful political family, and so was raised in local Lanao del Sur politics. He is the eldest son of Former Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal M. Adiong Sr. and Bae Soraya Alonto Adiong. His brothers are Former Regional Acting Governor Ansaruddin Alonto Adiong and Lanao del Sur 1st District Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong of the Autonomous Region on Muslim Mindanao. His father was largely credited for the landslide victory of President Arroyo and her slate in the 2004 elections.

Datu Yusoph Boyog Mama is a Filipino politician and government official. He was a candidate for public office as Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Regional Governor in the previous 2013 Mid-term Elections, being the lone candidate representing the province of Lanao del Sur, one of the five (5) provinces constituting the ARMM territory. With the support of various key multi-sectoral groups in the province of Lanao del Sur and the provincial capital Islamic City of Marawi, Datu Yusoph B. Mama ran as an independent candidate.

He briefly served as the Governor of ARMM in September 3, 2001 until October 11, 2001 when Nur Misuari went on an official leave. He was succeed by Parouk Hussin on December 27, 2001.
