Local elections were held in Basilan on May 9, 2022, as part of the 2022 Philippine general election. Voters selected candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor, and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, a vice-governor, a governor, and representatives for the province's lone congressional district in the Philippine House of Representatives.
Incumbent Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman ran for reelection for his third and final term Alfiya Akbar whom he ran against in 2019 [2] as well as Walid Amiril and Ismael Garingan.
Salliman won reelection with 59% of the vote while carrying both of Basilan's cities and 9 of 11 municipalities. [3]
Alfiya Akbar, daughter of former Governor Wahab Akbar and former Governor Jum Akbar [4] ran and lost the gubernatorial post for the second time. She won in Akbar and Ungkaya Pukan.

Incumbent Vice Governor Yusop Alano ran for reelection for his third and final term against incumbent Second District Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Pai Sali [6] as well as Rahma Jamiri and Majid Abdil.
Alano won reelection with 79% of the vote while carrying both of Basilan's cities and 10 of 11 municipalities. [3] Meanwhile, Pai Sali carried the municipality of Akbar.

Basilan, officially the Province of Basilan, is an island province of the Philippines located primarily in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region. Basilan Island is the largest and northernmost of the major islands of the Sulu Archipelago. It is just off the southern coast of the geographic Zamboanga Peninsula.
Ungkaya Pukan, officially the Municipality of Ungkaya Pukan, is a municipality in the province of Basilan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 24,016 people.

Hadjiman Sabbihi Hataman Saliman, also known as Jim Hataman Saliman or Jim Saliman is a Filipino politician serving as the governor of Basilan since 2016. He previously served as the representative of Basilan's lone district from 2010 to 2016. Despite his nickname, he should not be confused with Benjamin Hataman—his cousin—who was arrested on murder charges for the assassination of Wahab Akbar in 2007. Hadjiman himself may or may not have been involved; he competed and lost against Akbar for the same congressional seat in 2007, and the two became bitter enemies.
Jomar "Jom" Malangkit Maturan is a Filipino politician and current mayor of Ungkaya Pukan. Ungkaya Pukan is a relatively new municipality in Basilan carved out of Tipo-Tipo in 2006.
