The 2006 London tornado was a significant United Kingdom tornado spawned from a squall line moving over the city on 7 December 2006 at approximately 11:02 GMT. Its intensity is estimated to have been T5 on the TORRO scale,equating to F2 on the Fujita scale.
On the morning of 7 December,the UK was under the influence of a strong Atlantic Ocean low pressure system,which was named Ulrike, [1] bringing unstable weather conditions to much of the UK,and the south in particular. At approximately 07:30 GMT,a small band of thunderstorms initialised over Cornwall moving east-northeast across the country. By approximately 10:00 am,the squall line had reached Salisbury,where a drop in humidity was recorded,which may have resulted in an increase of atmospheric pressure behind the squall,causing it to accelerate forward. This increased motion in combination with a change in wind direction ahead of the storm may have initialised the rotation of the mesocyclone in one of the now strong storm cells,resulting in the touchdown of the T5 tornado in Kensal Rise,London,at 11 am. The London Fire Brigade and structural surveyors assessed the damage and structural safety of affected properties. In the meantime,several hundred people were displaced from their homes until they had been declared safe for their occupants to return. Brent London Borough Council,speaking to a national newspaper,announced that none of the affected properties are likely to be demolished,though a total of 29 homes have been declared as unfit for habitation due to the damage caused by the tornado. On March 18,1925,one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in recorded history generated at least 12 significant tornadoes and spanned a large portion of the midwestern and southern United States. In all,at least 751 men,women and children were killed and more than 2,298 were injured,making the outbreak the deadliest tornado outbreak in U.S. history. The outbreak generated several destructive tornadoes in Missouri,Illinois,and Indiana on the same day,as well as significant tornadoes in Alabama and Kansas. In addition to confirmed tornadoes,there were undoubtedly others with lesser impacts,the occurrences of which have been lost to history.
The 1993 Storm of the Century was a cyclonic storm,or nor'easter,that formed over the Gulf of Mexico on March 12,1993. The cold weather,heavy snowfall,high winds and storm surge that the storm brought affected a very large area;at its height,it stretched from Canada to Honduras. The cyclone moved through the Gulf of Mexico and then through the eastern United States before moving on to eastern Canada. It eventually dissipated in the North Atlantic Ocean on March 15.
The Late-May 1998 tornado outbreak and derecho was a historic tornado outbreak and derecho that began on the afternoon of May 30 and extended throughout May 31,1998,across a large portion of the northern half of the United States and southern Ontario from southeastern Montana east and southeastward to the Atlantic Ocean. The initial tornado outbreak,including the devastating Spencer tornado,hit southeast South Dakota on the evening of May 30. The Spencer tornado was the most destructive and the second-deadliest tornado in South Dakota history. A total of 13 people were killed;7 by tornadoes and 6 by the derecho. Over two million people lost electrical power,some for up to 10 days.
During the afternoon of May 6,1975,at least 12 tornadoes touched down in the Upper Midwest. The costliest of these tornadoes struck parts of western Omaha,Nebraska,causing at least $150 million in damage and killing three people. It was at the time the costliest tornado in U.S. history,damaging over a thousand homes across a nearly 2,000-block area on its roughly 15 mi (24 km) long path. The tornado's damage was later rated F4 on the Fujita scale. Another F4 tornado struck Magnet,Nebraska,destroying or damaging nearly every building in the town. The tornadoes were produced by thunderstorms moving across a narrow region of warm and moist air that had advanced northwards into the Upper Midwest as a result of a strong area of low pressure over South Dakota. Additional tornadoes on May 7 and May 8,including several in Louisiana,Texas,and Mississippi,were associated with the same storm system.
The 2005 Birmingham tornado remains the costliest tornado recorded in Great Britain,occurring on 28 July 2005 in the Southern and Eastern suburbs of Birmingham. It formed on a day when thunderstorms were expected to develop across the Midlands and eastern England. The tornado touched down at approximately 14:37 BST in the King’s Heath area and moved north-northeasterly,affecting King's Heath,Moseley,Sparkhill,Balsall Heath,Saltley and Erdington as it carved a roughly 7 mi (11 km) long path through the city. Several organizations have rated this tornado with various degrees of intensity;most recently the European Severe Storms Laboratory rated the tornado IF3 on the International Fujita scale in December 2024.
The tornado outbreak sequence of May 2004 was a series of tornado outbreaks that affected much of southern Ontario,the Central and Southern United States from east of the Rockies to the Mid-Atlantic States from May 21 to May 31,2004. Particularly hard hit were the central Plains from Missouri to Iowa and the Ohio Valley. The Central Plains were hit by two significant outbreaks on May 22 and May 24,the first outbreak of which produced a very large and violent tornado in Hallam,Nebraska. The Ohio Valley was affected by one of the largest tornado outbreaks ever during the Memorial Day weekend on May 29–30.

The 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak was a deadly tornado outbreak which affected the Southern United States and the lower Ohio Valley on February 5 and 6,2008. The event began on Super Tuesday,while 24 states in the United States were holding primary elections and caucuses to select the presidential candidates for the upcoming presidential election. Missouri,Illinois,Arkansas,Alabama,and Tennessee were among the affected regions in which primaries were being held. Some voting locations were forced to close early due to the approaching severe weather.
The March 1933 Nashville tornado outbreak was a deadly tornado outbreak that affected the city of Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region on March 14,1933. The entire outbreak produced five or more tornadoes,killed 44 people,and injured at least 461. One of the tornadoes was an F3 tornado family that struck downtown Nashville,killing 15 people and injuring 235. It is the seventh-deadliest tornado in Middle Tennessee on record and is one of two significant tornado events in the region in 1933,the other being the Beaty Swamp tornado of May 10,1933.

Worldwide,73 fatalities were caused by tornadoes;22 in the United States,20 in India,11 in Argentina,eight in the Philippines,four each in Canada and Brazil,two in Greece and one each in Serbia and Russia.
On February 10–11,2009,a broad-scale damaging wind event and small tornado outbreak affected the Central and Eastern United States. During the two-day period,14 tornadoes touched down in seven states. Oklahoma was struck by six tornadoes,the most of any state. The six tornadoes in Oklahoma also tied the record for the most tornadoes ever recorded in the state during the month of February,which would later be broken in 2023. The first day of the outbreak produced the most tornadoes;the second brought mainly high wind damage and rain or snow in most of the Northeast.
From April 14–16,2011,a tornado outbreak,among the largest recorded tornado outbreaks in U.S. history,produced 178 confirmed tornadoes across 16 states,resulting in severe destruction on all three days of the outbreak. A total of 38 people were killed from tornadoes and an additional five people were killed as a result of straight-line winds associated with the storm system. The outbreak of severe weather and tornadoes led to 43 deaths in the Southern United States. This was the largest number of fatalities in an outbreak in the United States since the 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak. It is locally referred to as the "Forgotten Outbreak" in Alabama as it was vastly overshadowed by the 2011 Super Outbreak less than two weeks later.
The 2011 Super Outbreak was the largest,costliest,and one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks ever recorded,taking place in the Southern,Midwestern,and Northeastern United States from April 25 to 28,2011,leaving catastrophic destruction in its wake. Over 175 tornadoes struck Alabama,Mississippi,and Tennessee,which were the most severely damaged states. Other destructive tornadoes occurred in Arkansas,Georgia,Kentucky,Louisiana,New York,and Virginia,with storms also affecting other states in the Southern and Eastern United States. In total,367 tornadoes were confirmed by NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) and Government of Canada's Environment Canada in 21 states from Texas to New York to southern Canada. Widespread and destructive tornadoes occurred on each day of the outbreak. April 27 was the most active day,with a record 223 tornadoes touching down that day from midnight to midnight CDT. Four of the tornadoes were rated EF5,which is the highest ranking on the Enhanced Fujita scale;typically these tornadoes are recorded no more than once a year.

From April 13 to 16,2012,a major tornado outbreak occurred across a large portion of the Great Plains. The storms resulted in six tornado-related fatalities,all of which occurred as a result of a nighttime EF3 tornado that caused major damage in and around Woodward,Oklahoma. Numerous other tornadoes occurred,including a violent EF4 tornado that passed near Marquette,Kansas,and an EF3 that caused major damage in Wichita.

The 1981 United Kingdom tornado outbreak is regarded as the largest recorded tornado outbreak in European history. In the span of 5 hours and 26 minutes during the late morning and early afternoon of 23 November 1981,104 confirmed tornadoes touched down across Wales and central,northern and eastern England.
A widespread,destructive,and deadly tornado outbreak sequence affected the Southeastern United States from April 28 to May 2,1953,producing 24 tornadoes,including five violent F4 tornadoes. The deadliest event of the sequence was an F4 tornado family that ravaged Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins,Georgia,on April 30,killing at least 18 people and injuring 300 or more others. On May 1,a pair of F4 tornadoes also struck Alabama,causing a combined nine deaths and 15 injuries. Additionally,another violent tornado struck rural Tennessee after midnight on May 2,killing four people and injuring eight. Additionally,two intense tornadoes impacted Greater San Antonio,Texas,on April 28,killing three people and injuring 20 altogether. In all,36 people were killed,361 others were injured,and total damages reached $26.713 million (1953 USD). There were additional casualties from non-tornadic events as well,including a washout which caused a train derailment that injured 10.
Just before midnight on Wednesday,November 1,2023,a tornado impacted the Isle of Jersey in the Channel Islands,a crown dependency of the United Kingdom. Associated with powerful extratropical cyclone Storm Ciaran,the tornado was subsequently rated T6 on the TORRO scale or IF3 on the International Fujita Scale,which is broadly analogous to the Enhanced Fujita Scale commonly used in the United States,making it the strongest tornado to hit the British Isles since the Birmingham Tornado in 2005.
