Biodun Ogunbiyi is a Nigerian politician from Ogun State. He was a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, but left the party in 2006 with a faction to found Democratic People's Party following a dispute that led to the suspension of the Deputy National Chairman, North, Jeremiah Useni in 2006.

The 2003 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003. ANPP candidate Attahiru Bafarawa won the election, defeating PDP Abdallah Wali and 4 other candidates.

The 2007 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on April 14, 2007. PDP candidate Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko won the election, defeating DPP Muhammed Dingyadi and 8 other candidates.

The 2008 Sokoto State gubernatorial by-election occurred on May 24, 2008. PDP candidate Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko won the election, defeating DPP Muhammed Dingyadi and other candidates.

But the Court of Appeal Sokoto Division on 30 October 2019 sacked Shehu Abubakar Tambuwal representing Sokoto South on the platform of All Progressives Congress. Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party replaced the sacked senator.

The 2015 Nigerian Senate election in Sokoto State was held on March 28, 2015, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Sokoto State. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
