The 2017 FIA R-GT Cup was the third edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup was contested over 5 tarmac rounds from the WRC, the ERC and the Rallye International du Valais. [1]

Contents

Thanks to the new Fiat 124 R-GT more drivers participated in the R-GT cup than in previous season. The overall winner was Romain Dumas driving a Porsche 997 GT3. [2]

Calendar

The calendar for the 2017 season featured five tarmac rallies: two selected tarmac rounds from the WRC, two selected rounds from the ERC and the 58. Rallye International du Valais from the TER series.

François Delecour is a French rally driver.

European Rally Championship

The European Rally Championship is an automobile rally competition held annually on the European continent and organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship has been organized since 1953 and have disputed in different European countries, alternating between rallies on asphalt and gravel. It was the first supranational rally championship that was organized in the world and therefore the oldest one. In 2012 it had 60 editions and in 2013 it was renewed with the merger with the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Andreas Mikkelsen Norwegian rally driver

Andreas Mikkelsen is a Norwegian rally driver. He is currently competing in the World Rally Championship-2 and the European Rally Championship for Toksport WRT. He previously drove for the factory teams of Volkswagen, Citroën and Hyundai in the World Rally Championship, finishing third in the drivers' standings in 2014, 2015 and 2016. His current co-driver is Elliott Edmondson.

Group R FIA racing car classification for production-derived cars

In relation to motorsport governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, Group R refers to a set of regulations providing production-derived vehicles for rally competition. The Group R regulations were created in 2008 as a gradual replacement for Group A and Group N rally cars. To comply with Group R regulations, a car must be homologated in Group A and receive one or more VR extensions. Each VR extension is a set of homologated parts and modifications, designed and sold by the manufacturer. As part of its structure, the Group R regulations have a provision for GT cars, known as R-GT.

Romain Dumas French professional auto racing driver

Romain Dumas is a French racing driver and a Porsche factory driver. He first started out in karting and single-seater before becoming an expert driver in endurance racing, GT and sport-prototype. He has won the greatest races of the discipline, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Spa, the 24 Hours Nürburgring, and the 2008 12 Hours of Sebring. He has been one of Porsche’s factory drivers since 2004.

Group R-GT, is a FIA specification for GT cars in rallying. The R-GT regulations were introduced in 2011, and since 2014 technical passports for individual vehicles can be obtained. Thus a homologation for specific car models is no longer required.

2015 World Rally Championship

The 2015 World Rally Championship was the 43rd season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and drivers contest thirteen rallies across four continents, competing for the FIA World Rally Championships for Drivers and Manufacturers. The WRC-2, WRC-3 and Junior WRC championships are run in support of the premier championship.

The 2015 FIA R-GT Cup was the first edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup was contested over 5 tarmac rounds from the World and European rally championships.

2016 World Rally Championship

The 2016 World Rally Championship was the 44th season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and drivers competed in thirteen rounds—starting with the Rallye Monte Carlo in January and finishing with Rally Australia in November—for the World Rally Championships for Drivers and Manufacturers.

2017 World Rally Championship

The 2017 FIA World Rally Championship was the 45th season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and crews contested in thirteen events—starting in Monte Carlo on 19 January and ending in Australia on 19 November—for the World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers and Manufacturers. Drivers were free to compete in cars complying with World Rally Car and Group R regulations; however, only Manufacturers competing with 2017-specification World Rally Cars were eligible to score points in the Manufacturers' championship. The series were supported by the WRC-2 and WRC-3 championships and the newly created WRC Trophy at every round, and by the Junior World Rally Championship at selected rounds.

The 2017 FIA World Rally Championship-2 is the fifth season of the World Rally Championship-2, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, running in support of the World Rally Championship. It was created when the Group R class of rally car was introduced in 2013. The Championship is open to cars complying with R4, R5, and Super 2000 regulations. Esapekka Lappi did not return to defend his 2016 title as left Škoda Motorsport for the top WRC category to become third driver of Toyota GAZOO Racing. However Škoda Motorsport retained the title thanks to Pontus Tidemand who won the championship after Rallye Deutschland.

The 2017 FIA World Rally Championship-3 was the fifth season of the World Rally Championship-3, an auto racing championship recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, running in support of the World Rally Championship. It was created when the Group R class of rally car was introduced in 2013.

The 2016 FIA R-GT Cup was the second edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup was contested over 5 tarmac rounds from the WRC, the ERC and the Rallye International du Valais.

The 2017 Monte Carlo Rally is a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over four days between 19 and 22 January 2017. It marks the eighty-fifth running of the Monte Carlo Rally, and is the first round of the 2017 World Rally Championship, WRC-2 and WRC-3 seasons.

The 2018 FIA R-GT Cup was the fourth edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup was contested over 5 tarmac rounds from the WRC, the ERC and the Rallye International du Valais. The competition was won by French driver Raphaël Astier in an Abarth 124 R-GT.

The 2019 FIA World Rally Championship-2 was the seventh season of the World Rally Championship-2, an auto racing championship for rally cars that is recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the second-highest tier of international rallying. The category was created when the Group R class of rally car was introduced in 2013 and runs in support of the World Rally Championship. The championship is open to cars complying with R5 regulations.

The 2019 FIA R-GT Cup is the fifth edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup is being contested over 8 tarmac rounds from the WRC, the ERC and the Rallye International du Valais.

The 2019 FIA World Rally Championship-2 Pro was the first season of the World Rally Championship-2 Pro, an auto racing championship for rally cars that is recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the second-highest tier of international rallying. The category was created in 2019 and open to cars entered by manufacturers and complying with Group R5 regulations. The World Rally Championship-2 was open to privately entered cars.

The 2020 FIA R-GT Cup is the sixth edition of the FIA rally cup for GT cars in Group R-GT. The cup is being contested over 2 tarmac rounds from the WRC and one the ERC.

The 2020 European Rally Championship was the 68th season of the FIA European Rally Championship, the European continental championship series in rallying. The season is also the eighth following the merge between the European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Chris Ingram was the reigning champion, but did not return to defend the title. Alexey Lukyanuk won the championship in Citroën C3 R5.
