The 2019 Canada Winter Games, officially known as the XXVII Canada Games, is a Canadian multi-sport event that was held in Red Deer, Alberta, from February 15, 2019, to March 3, 2019. These were the third Canada Winter Games held in the province of Alberta, after the 1975 Canada Winter Games in Lethbridge and the 1995 Canada Winter Games in Grande Prairie. [1]
On September 4, 2014, it was announced that Red Deer had won its bid to host the games by beating Lethbridge. [2]
13 competition venues located in Red Deer, Calgary and Kananaskis were used. [3]
164 medals events in 19 sports were contested. [4] Note, ski cross is included in the alpine ski program.
All 13 of Canada's provinces and territories competed. The number of competitors each province or territory entered is in brackets.
The competition was held over 16 days, with Saturday the 23rd being the transition day (no events held).

Winter sports or winter activities are competitive sports or non-competitive recreational activities which are played on snow or ice. Most are variations of skiing, ice skating and sledding. Traditionally, such games were only played in cold areas during winter, but artificial snow and artificial ice allow more flexibility. Playing areas and fields consist of either snow or ice.
The 5th Asian Winter Games, also known as Aomori 2003, took place from February 1 to 8, 2003 in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
The 6th Asian Winter Games (第六届亚洲冬季运动会), also known as Changchun 2007 (长春2007), were held in Changchun, Jilin, China from January 28 to February 4, 2007. The Winter Games are a celebration of Winter sports in Asia. This was the second time that China hosted the Asian Winter Games; the first was in Harbin, Heilongjiang in 1996.
The BC Games Society is a provincial crown corporation in British Columbia created in 1977. The organization is the governing body responsible for the BC Summer Games and BC Winter Games, and manages the Team BC program at the Canada Games. Ron Butlin served as the first manager-director of the society from 1977 to 1987.
Approximately 2,000 athletes, coaches, team staff and officials participated in the 2008 Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in Canada, celebrating the 20th event. The 2008 games took place from March 9 through March 15. Events were held in and around the city of Yellowknife. This was the fourth time Yellowknife had hosted the games, and the fifth time overall in the Northwest Territories.

Canada competed at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea, from January 19 to February 1, 2024. This was Canada's fourth appearance at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, having competed at every Games since the inaugural edition in 2012.
