The 2022 National Games of India, also known as the 36th National Games of India and informally as Gujarat 2022, was the 36th edition of the National Games of India and was held in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar in the state of Gujarat between 29 September and 12 October 2022. Contents

Participating teams

Teams are expected from all 28 states and eight union territories of India as well a team representing Indian Armed Forces. The new union territories of Ladakh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu made their National Games debut at these games.

Marketing

The official logo and motto of the games was unveiled on 22 July 2022. The logo depicts an Asiatic lion head make up of sporting pictograms and the Statue of Unity. The official motto of the games is "Celebrating unity through sports". [3] The games mascot is Savaj the asiatic lion. [4]

The curtain raiser event was held on 4 September 2022 at EKA Arena. [5]

Venues

The games will be held across the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. [6] While Cycling-Track Events will be held in Indira Gandhi Cycling Velodrome, Delhi.

Sports

The sports programme will include athletics, field hockey, football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, skateboarding, Netball and judo, and will also feature traditional sports such as kabaddi, kho kho, mallakhamba, and yogasana. [9]

Sports retain a very valuable position in the culture of Gujarat. Some of the popular sports played in Gujarat are cricket, kho-kho, badminton, football, kabaddi and table tennis. The Sports Authority of Gujarat presides and supervises the sporting activities under the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department. There have been many successful and popular initiatives undertaken by the authority to encourage the sports culture in Gujarat, Khel Mahakumbh' being an example. Gujarat has various levels of sports competitions including events of both larger and smaller levels.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Gujarat in 2021. Elections were held for 8,235 seats, with 237 seats having only one unopposed candidates. No form was filled for two seats in Taluka panchayat. The elections included six municipal corporations where elections took place in February — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar – and one (Gandhinagar) in which the elections were held on 3 October. Results to Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation were declared on 5 October 2021.

The 2021–22 Senior Women's National Football Championship, also known as Hero Senior Women's National Football Championship for sponsorship reasons, was the 26th edition of the Senior Women's National Football Championship, the premier competition in India for women's teams representing regional and state football associations. The tournament was hosted in Kerala, between 28 November and 9 December 2021.
