HSV-2 <i>Swift</i> Hybrid catamaran

HSV-2 Swift is a hybrid catamaran. She was privately owned and operated by Sealift Inc., and was originally built under the JHSV program as a proof of concept. As part of this program, she was directly leased for evaluation from her builders by the United States Navy Military Sealift Command from 2003 to 2013, primarily as a mine countermeasures and sea basing test platform. Later during her official naval career she was mostly used for fleet support and humanitarian partnership missions.

USS <i>Thomas Hudner</i> Arleigh Burke-class destroyer

USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. The $663 million contract to build her was awarded on 28 February 2012, to Bath Iron Works, of Bath, Maine. On 7 May 2012, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced the ship name would be named Thomas Hudner in honor of U.S. naval aviator Thomas Hudner, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in trying to save the life of his wingman, Ensign Jesse L. Brown, during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, in the Korean War.

The Houthi–Saudi Arabian conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Royal Saudi Armed Forces and Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi forces that has been taking place in the Arabian Peninsula, including the southern Saudi regions of Asir, Jizan, and Najran, and northern Yemeni governorates of Saada, Al Jawf, and Hajjah, since the onset of the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen in 2015.

Houthi involvement in the Israel–Hamas war, also known as the Red Sea crisis, began on 19 October 2023, when Iranian-backed Houthi movement initiated a series of attacks, targeting Southern Israel and the ships in the Red Sea it claimed were linked to Israel.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">United States–Houthi conflict (2023–present)</span> Ongoing low-intensity conflict

The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran-backed militias began in late 2023. It includes the U.S. Navy fighting against drone attacks on American warships and other vessels by armed groups of the Houthi movement. It also includes clashes with other groups and militias, in various countries' territories, who are part of an overall conflict with Iranian proxies and Iran-backed groups.

Maersk Hangzhou is an H-class container ship operated by Maersk Line.

On 30 December 2023, Houthi forces in the Gulf of Aden attacked the Maersk commercial vessel Maersk Hangzhou. Earlier the next day, Houthis again attacked the Hangzhou, attempting to board the freighter. The Hangzhou made a distress signal, to which U.S. Navy forces of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and USS Gravely responded. The U.S., along with Maersk security personnel aboard the ship, repelled the attack. The U.S. sank three Houthi vessels, killing ten Houthis. Maersk announced a 48-hour pause on shipping through the Red Sea following the incident.
