Afram Plains District is a former district that was located in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Kwahu North District , which was created from the former Kwahu District Council, until it was later renamed to become Afram Plains District in 1993. However, on 19 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Kwahu Afram Plains North District (capital: Donkorkrom) and Kwahu Afram Plains South District (capital: Tease). The district assembly was located in the northern part of Eastern Region and had Donkorkrom as its capital town.

Administration

In Kwahu Afram Plains North District, they currently have Betty Mensah, who succeeded Emmanuel Aboagye Didie as the member of Parliament. [1] Samuel Kena a retired educationist is the current district chief executive. [2]

Recreation

Area well noted for fresh water fishing and production of smoked fish. Most major markets in Ghana receive their smoked fish from this area. [3] However, the area is expected to be among of the districts to record highest production levels of cassava, with production estimated at, 562,586 MT. [4]

Traditionally, owned by the Kwahu but occupied much by the Ewes and Krobos due to the fishing. [3]

Kwahu or Kwawu is an area and group of people that live in Ghana and are part of the Twi-speaking Akan group. The region has been dubbed Asaase Aban, or the Natural Fortress, given its position as the highest habitable elevation in the country. Kwahu lies in the Eastern Region of Ghana, on the west shore of Lake Volta. The Kwahus share the Eastern Region with the Akyem and Akuapem, as well as the Adangbe-Krobos. Among Kwahu lands, a significant migrant population works as traders, farm-hands, fisherfolk, and caretakers in the fertile waterfront 'melting pot' of Afram plains. These migrants are mostly from the Northern and Volta Regions, as well as, some indigenous Guans from the bordering Oti and Brong-Ahafo regions live in the Afram Plains area. Kwahus are traditionally known to be wealthy traders, owning a significant number of businesses and industries in Ghana.

Kpando Municipal District is one of the eighteen districts in Volta Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 10 March 1989 when it was known as Kpando District, until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 19 August 2004 to create South Dayi District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Kpando District. However on 28 June 2012, the southern part of the district was later split off to create North Dayi District on 28 June 2012; while the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Kpando Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of Volta Region and has Kpando as its capital town.

He was the Minister of Fuel and Power from 1965 to 1966, the member of parliament for the Kwahu North constituency from 1954 to 1965, and later the member of parliament for the Afram constituency from 1965 to 1966.
