The individual events for badminton at the 2023 SEA Games was held from 12 to 16 May 2023 at the Morodok Techo Badminton Hall, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. [1] It was contesting five events: the men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

The BWF World Championships, formerly known as IBF World Championships, and also known as the World Badminton Championships, is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). As a young badminton player of the club SCVU in Suriname Virgil Soeroredjo won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Mitchel Wongsodikromo.
Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F. in Suriname Mitchel Wongsodikromo was an exceptional talent and won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Virgil Soeroredjo.
Goh Soon Huat is a Malaysian badminton player. He was a part of the Malaysia team that won bronze in the men's team event at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games. He switched to mixed doubles and paired up with Shevon Jemie Lai due to a lack of performance in the singles department. His best achievement is winning the mixed doubles title at the 2018 Singapore Open with Lai, where they beat the 2016 Olympic gold medalists Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir in the final in straight games.
Puttita Supajirakul is a Thai badminton player. She reached a career high as world number 9 in the women's doubles. Supajirakul was the women's doubles bronze medalists at the Asian, and World Juniors and also at the BWF World Championships. Together with Sapsiree Taerattanachai, she recorded as the first Thai women's doubles to medal at the World Championships. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Yuta Watanabe is a Japanese badminton player. He is a member of the Nihon Unisys team, and national team A representative. Known for his quick and explosive movements with signature drop shots on court, Watanabe has won the mixed doubles bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, as well as being three-times BWF World Championships medalists.
Doha Hany Mostafa is an Egyptian badminton player. She started playing badminton at aged five, and joined the national team in 2013. She won the bronze medal at the 2014 African Youth Games, and represented her country at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. She was the women's doubles gold medalist at the 2019 African Games. Hany featured in Egypt team that for the first time won the All Africa Women's Team Championships in 2020, also claimed two title in the individual competition by winning the women's and mixed doubles event. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in three different events; women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Jason Anthony Ho-Shue is a Canadian badminton player. He won the gold medal in the men's doubles at the 2019 Pan American Games, and at the Pan Am Championships in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He also won the men's singles title at the Pan Am Championships in 2016.

Badminton was introduced to Singapore by the British in the early 19th century. By the mid-1920s, the game became increasingly popular and spread quickly to the rest of the local population. Amid the rising popularity, badminton enthusiasts began forming clubs, or “parties”, to meet and play the game. It was during this period that the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) was established to promote the sport and organise competitions. The first official annual open championships was held in that period with the best players from the tournament such as E. J. Vass, Tan Chong Tee, Alice Pennefather and Ong Siew Eng were chosen to represent Singapore in the regional tournaments.
