Blackley and Middleton South is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. [2] Created as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. [3] Since 2024, it has been represented by Labour's Graham Stringer, who was MP for the predecessor seats of Blackley and Broughton (2010-2024) and Manchester Blackley (1997-2010).
The constituency is based in northern Greater Manchester.
The constituency is composed of the following wards (as they existed on 1 December 2020):
The seat covers the majority of the former Blackley and Broughton constituency - excluding the parts in the City of Salford (Broughton) as well as the City of Manchester district of Cheetham. The two Middleton wards were formerly part of Heywood and Middleton (renamed Heywood and Middleton North), and Moston was transferred in from Manchester Central. [5]

Graham Eric Stringer is a British Labour politician who has served as Member of Parliament for Blackley and Middleton South since the 2024 general election. He has served as the area's MP continuously since 1997, having previously represented the analoguous predecessor constituencies of Manchester Blackley (1997–2010), and Blackley and Broughton (2010–2024). He was Leader of Manchester City Council from 1984 to 1996 and served as chair of Manchester Airport from 1996 to 1997.
Salford is a borough constituency in Greater Manchester represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The borough constituency dated from 1997 and was abolished in 2010, replaced by Salford and Eccles. The constituency was re-established for the 2024 general election and is represented by Rebecca Long-Bailey of the Labour Party until her suspension and whip removed on 23 July 2024, as a result of voting to scrap the two child benefit cap.
Bury South is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom since 2019 by Christian Wakeford. Wakeford was elected as a Conservative but defected to the Labour Party in January 2022. He was re-elected at the 2024 general election.

Of the 30 seats with the highest percentage of winning majority in 2017, the seat ranks 25th with a 55.7% margin, and is the only one of the twenty nine of these seats won by the Labour Party in which the second-placed candidate was a Liberal Democrat, rather than Conservative. This is despite being a Conservative seat right up to 1987, then becoming relatively safely Labour, then Liberal Democrat from 2005 to 2015 before they lost on a large swing in 2015, after which Smith substantially increased his majority.
