The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle is a secular-nationalist political party in Indonesia. Since 2014, it has been the ruling and largest party in the House of Representatives (DPR) with 128 seats. The party is currently led by Megawati Sukarnoputri, who served as the President of Indonesia from 2001 to 2004. It is also the party of the current president, Joko Widodo.
Presidential elections were held in Indonesia on 9 July 2014, with former general Prabowo Subianto contesting the elections against the governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo; incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was constitutionally barred from seeking a third term in office. On 22 July the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced Joko Widodo's victory. He and his vice president, Jusuf Kalla, were sworn-in on 20 October 2014, for a five-year term.

He was the governor of Jakarta, in office between 15 June and 15 October 2017 after being acting governor since 9 May. He replaced his predecessor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama when the latter was found guilty of blasphemy against Islam. He was appointed by Basuki as Deputy Governor in 2014 to fill the gap left by the election of Joko Widodo as president.

#2019GantiPresiden was a Twitter hashtag and social media campaign in which Indonesian users shared their disapproval towards the Joko Widodo presidency. The main purpose of this campaign was a constitutional effort to replace the current president in the 2019 general election. The hashtag went viral after it was used by Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Mardani Ali Sera on Twitter. In English, the term "Ganti Presiden" literally translates to "Replace the President."

Claimed itself as "moral movement", it was founded by Ahmad Yani, Rocky Gerung, Din Syamsuddin, Gatot Nurmantyo, Rochmad Wahab, Meutia Farida Hatta, Malam Sambat Kaban, Said Didu, Refly Harun, Ichsanuddin Noorsy, Lieus Sungkharisma, Jumhur Hidayat, Abdullah Hehamahua, and Amien Rais. It is described as a right-wing, populist, traditionalist conservatist, elitist, extra-parliamentary, non-partisan pressure group, due to being founded by right-wing politicians and former generals formerly supporting Prabowo Subianto during 2019 presidential election, although most of the figures are politically independent from Indonesian political parties at that time. It was also supported by members of the Islamic Defenders Front.

The 2024 Indonesian presidential election is the fifth general election in Indonesia that aims to elect the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. The direct election is conducted to determine the holders of the office of president and vice president for the 2024‒2029 service period and will be held on Wednesday, 14 February 2024. Incumbent president Joko Widodo cannot run for a third term due to term limits set by the Indonesian constitution.
