Braingames is an American educational program shown on HBO in the mid-1980s. It was a half-hour program consisting of brain-teasing animated skits (either stop-motion or cartoon) designed to make the viewers think.

Episodes

The series pilot was aired in 1983 (featuring a female Sphinx in the intro), with another five episodes (this time with a gentleman with an egg for a head) made in 1984-1985 with new games and a few brought back from the pilot. After that, an episode called "The Best of Braingames" was made which had five of the best Braingames games from episodes 1, 3, and 4, plus a special episode of "The Riddler" (see below) where Chuck Roast read off the winners of a contest for "The Absolutely Positively Worst Riddles in America". Every episode in the series ends with a sad and crying voice saying, "Braingames...is now...over." On the final episode, an even sadder voice says, "Braingames...is now...over...for good."

Sphinx mythological creature

A sphinx is a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion.

Although full episodes have not been shown in years, HBO has occasionally shown single games between programs in the late 1980s-mid-1990s.

In 1996-2000, full episodes were later shown occasionally each month on HBO Family.

Arcade game coin-operated entertainment machine

An arcade game or coin-op game is a coin-operated entertainment machine typically installed in public businesses such as restaurants, bars and amusement arcades. Most arcade games are video games, pinball machines, electro-mechanical games, redemption games or merchandisers. While exact dates are debated, the golden age of arcade video games is usually defined as a period beginning sometime in the late 1970s and ending sometime in the mid-1980s. Excluding a brief resurgence in the early 1990s, the arcade industry subsequently declined in the Western hemisphere as competing home video game consoles such as the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox increased in their graphics and game-play capability and decreased in cost.

Dracula is an 1897 Gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. It introduced the character of Count Dracula, and established many conventions of subsequent vampire fantasy. The novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse, and of the battle between Dracula and a small group of men and a woman led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing.

Home release

The series was released over three VHS videotapes in the 1980s and 1990s, but there has been no word on a DVD release yet.

Smiley has also hosted This Is Your Lunch, a parody of This Is Your Life. Guests who were profiled included a loaf of bread, a tooth and a tree. He has also hosted pageants for numbers and letters.

Spicks and Specks was an Australian music-themed comedic television quiz show. It aired on ABC1 at 8:30 on Wednesday nights, with the show repeated on Thursdays on ABC2 at 8pm. The previous year's season was repeated every Friday at 2:30 pm on ABC1. Repeats of the show screen nightly at 7:30 on ABC Comedy. It was filmed at ABC Melbourne's studios in Gordon Street, Elsternwick. The program has won three Logie Awards and numerous nominations.

Get the Picture is an American children's game show that aired from March 18, 1991 to December 6, 1991 on Nickelodeon. Hosted by Mike O'Malley, the show features two teams answering questions and playing games for the opportunity to guess a hidden picture on a giant screen made up of 16 smaller screens. The show was taped at Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The program's theme music and game music was composed by Dan Vitco & Mark Schultz, and produced by Schultz. <i>Mock the Week</i> British panel show

Mock the Week is a British topical, satirical celebrity panel show, that was created by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson, the same people responsible for the comedy game show Whose Line Is It Anyway?. Performers deliver mostly prepared answers on different subjects under the guise of an improvised gameshow. It is made by independent production company Angst Productions, and made its debut on BBC Two on 5 June 2005, with the show's theme song being "News of the World" by The Jam. The show has featured a variety of different stand-up performers, some being part of the show for several series as a permanent fixture, with host Dara Ó Briain and comedian Hugh Dennis having appeared in every episode since its debut. Old episodes currently air on Dave, which is frequently mentioned on the show.

<i>Caesars Challenge</i> television series

Caesars Challenge is an American game show that aired on NBC from June 14, 1993 to January 14, 1994 and emanated from the Circus Maximus Theatre inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ahmad Rashād hosted the series and, in keeping with the theme of the show's location, he was assisted by a man dressed as a Roman gladiator. Dan Doherty played the role for most of the show's run, with Chad Brown and Zach Ruby handling the earliest episodes before Doherty joined the show.

Bargain Hunters is a game show that aired on ABC daytime from July 6, 1987, to September 4, 1987. The series, a summer replacement and the first daytime game show to air on ABC since it ended its game show block a year earlier, ran only nine weeks. it was temporarily replaced by reruns of Mr. Belvedere before being permanently replaced with The Home Show on January 18, 1988. ABC would not attempt another daytime game show after Bargain Hunters until three years later, when it revived Match Game.

<i>Star Golden Bell</i>

Star Golden Bell (Hangul: 스타골든벨) was a South Korean variety show broadcast on KBS. A popular show, it occasionally entered the Korean top 20 chart. The show consisted of mini-games, which have certain prize amounts. The winning celebrity is given the opportunity to ring the bell by correctly answering a riddle. If he or she is correct, the money is donated in the winner's name. All "winnings" go to a charity of KBS's choice; the last donation, in the amount of $110,000, was made on July 1, 2008. In addition to the main MC, Jun Hyun-moo (전현무), there were two additional hosts, Kim Je-dong (김제동) and Lee Chae-young (이채영), who were either in charge of administering games or were challengers competing against the celebrity contestants. Star featured 5 lines of 4 people each which had various celebrities from music, film, television, and musicals. The last line ("Bell") contains regularly appearing celebrities.

<i>Blues Room</i> television series

Blue's Room is an American children's live-action/animated puppet television series originally broadcast on Nickelodeon as part of the Nick Jr. block. It is a spin-off series of the popular Blue's Clues series, and was created by Traci Paige Johnson and Angela C. Santomero. The show started as short segments on Blue's Clues episodes in Season 6.
