Briarton is an unincorporated community in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States, in the Town of Lessor, west of Green Bay. [1] [2]
Briarton had post office, established April 18, 1883, and discontinued on May 31, 1904. [3] A 1921 gazetteer indicates that businesses in the community on that date included two general stores, a saw mill, a store for agricultural implements, and one for soft drinks. Rural mail delivery was being done from nearby Leeman, and the closest bank was in Galesburg (now the community of Navarino). [4]
Before 1950, Briarton was located at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 47 and (then) County Trunk Highway W. On the weekend of October 1, 1950, a new alignment of the highway was opened which bypassed the community. [5] The north–south road through Briarton has been known as Old 47 Road (or variants thereof) since.
In approximately 1985–1986, County Trunk Highway W through Briarton was taken over by the State of Wisconsin and made part of Wisconsin Highway 156. [6] Highway 156 is a well traveled state highway and indirectly connects Briarton with larger cities. Briarton can also be reached by snowmobile trail during the winter months as trails run into town.

Black Creek is a village in north-central Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,357 at the 2020 census. The village is located within the Town of Black Creek, but is governed independently. Origins of the community trace back to 1862 when it was settled by American Civil War veteran, Thomas J. Burdick and his son, Abraham. Initially, the village had been referred to as Middleburg, due to its geographical proximity to Green Bay, Shawano, and Appleton. However, the name was later changed to reflect the dark-colored creek along the outskirts of the community following village incorporation in 1904. Today, Black Creek hosts a variety of community events including the annual Family Daze celebration.

State Trunk Highway 29 is a state highway running east–west across central Wisconsin. It is a major east–west corridor connecting the Twin Cities and the Chippewa Valley with Wausau and Green Bay. A multi-year project to convert the corridor to a four-lane freeway or expressway from Elk Mound to Green Bay was completed in 2005. The remainder of WIS 29 is two-lane surface road or urban multi-lane road.

It runs from a junction with Highway 29, Highway 47, and Highway 55 in Bonduel north to Highway 22 in Cecil. Highway 117 is maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
State Trunk Highway 156 is a 26.72-mile (43.00 km) state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The highway runs east–west through northeast Wisconsin, passing through Waupaca and Shawano counties. Highway 156 runs from Wisconsin Highway 22 in Clintonville east to Wisconsin Highway 29 at the Brown County line northwest of Green Bay. The highway is maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
