Chikkamagaravalli Thimme Gowda Ravi (born 18 July 1967) [1] is an Indian politician who was the former National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party and a four-time legislator from Chikmagalur Constituency of Karnataka State from 2004 to 2023. He was a cabinet minister in the Government of Karnataka.He resigned his post as the cabinet minister after being appointed the National General secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party. [2]
Ravi was a four-time legislator from Chiikamagaluru assembly seat of Karnataka. He has been at the forefront of Hindutva movement in coastal Karnataka. [3]
Ravi was a BJP Karnataka Yuva Morcha (the party Youth Wing) President. Later,Rajnath Singh made him Special Invitee and he went on to become the State General Secretary of the party. He also represented the party in press conferences. [4]
He unsuccessfully contested against C. R. Sageer Ahamed of Congress in 1999 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He lost by 982 votes.
In the 2004 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections,C. T. Ravi defeated C. R. Sageer Ahamed by a margin of more than 25,000 Votes in Chikmagalur,thus marking C. T. Ravi's entry to Karnataka Legislature. [5]
When Karnataka Legislative Assembly was dissolved in 2007 and Karnataka went to polls in April–May 2008,he was again fielded by BJP from Chikmagalur Constituency and won. [6]
In 2023 his winning streak came to an end when his once own aide H D Tammaiah (who had shifted from BJP to INC just months before) defeated him in the Assembly Elections. [7]
In 2012 he was named Higher Education Minister. In the post he dealt with Dakshina Kannada,Chikkamagaluru district education and other development projects and he served as the Minister of Tourism and Kannada language in the Fourth B. S. Yeddyurappa ministry and was also Minister of Sports and Youth from January 2020 and resigned on 4 October 2020. [8] [5]
When addressing party workers in Chikkamagalur,Ravi made derogatory statements. In Kannada,he associated those who resist or do not vote for Modi to a word that belittles women on April 14,2019. The committee led by State Women's Congress President Dr. B. Pushpa Amarnath complained to the National Commission for Women. [9] [10]
An FIR was filed against Ravi by Lokayukta police for allegedly being involved in a land scam after a complaint from a municipal councillor. The complainant claimed that Ravi got allotted three civic amenities sites in his wife's name in favour of the Anjaneya Education Society,run by his relatives by giving fake documents for ₹12.09 lakh while the market value was over ₹5 crore. [11] However authorities claimed that there was no education society registered in the name of his wife and he got the land for a school which did not even exist. [12]
The complainant also accused Ravi of getting two other residential sites allotted in his wife's name in Chikamagalur "using his position as an MLA,by adopting backdoor methods". [11]
In 2012,a RTI activist A.C. Kumar of Chikkamagaluru filed a private lawsuit blaming Ravi of having assets disproportionally large to his documented revenue sources from 2004 to 2010. He stated that in this period,his known revenue sources were ₹49 lakh,while his assets were ₹3.18 crore. In 2015,the Supreme Court gave guidelines regulating petitioners to file affidavits in support of their allegations or complaints,Ravi asked the high court to dismiss the whole prosecution on the basis that the petitioner did not file an affidavit. [13] In order to give the petitioner,AC Kumar,a chance to file an affidavit in support of his accusations made against Ravi,the high court sent the case back to the special court. [14] [15]
About 30 lecturers staged protest against Ravi in a resort in Yalahanka where Ravi was staying in August 2015 claiming that he had cheated them of their money. The protestors claimed that Ravi who was higher education minister collected money from them promising permanent jobs in aided diploma colleges. They claimed that they had lost both their money and jobs and demanded a refund. They also raised slogans against Ravi. The BJP leaders quickly jolted the protesters inside the resort when they saw media persons approaching. [16]
C T Ravi received a notice from the Election Commission for his 'inflammatory' speech at the Sakleshpur election rally in Hassan district on 6 April 2009. [17]
The Karnataka High Court in March 2018 ordered issuance of notices to Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde and MLA C.T. Ravi alleging that the two BJP leaders made provocative speeches inciting communal violence during November 2017. [18]
Two youngsters were killed and three others were injured when an SUV car in which C.T. Ravi was travelling crashed into two cars parked by the side of the road on Tumakuru district on February 19,2019. One of the drivers of the cars that were hit claimed that Ravi threatened him. [19] The locals blamed Ravi for the wreck,claiming that he was driving the car himself at a very high speed. [20] Though reports also stated that Ravi was driving the car while drunk,Karnataka BJP's state unit claimed that Ravi was not driving the car. [21] The police booked Ravi's driver on charges of rash and negligent driving. Many locals accused Ravi of not respecting the sentiments of families of the deceased. [20] Relatives and friends of the dead staged a protest against Ravi on the hospital premises demanding justice. [21]
Members of the right-wing Hindutva groups in India have protested against the sale of Halal food in India. Bajrang Dal,Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindutva groups were running door to door campaign in Karnataka,asking people not to purchase Halal meat. In March 2022 the Hindutva group Bajrang Dal physically attacked a Muslim meat seller,five persons were arrested in the incident. In March 2022,the Hindutva ruling party,BJP national general secretary C. T. Ravi had called halal food as "economic jihad". [22]

Bajrang Dal is a Hindu nationalist militant organisation that forms the youth wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). It is a member of the right-wing Sangh Parivar. The ideology of the organisation is based on Hindutva. It was founded on 1 October 1984 in Uttar Pradesh,and began spreading more in the 2010s throughout India,although its most significant base remains the northern and central portions of the country.
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu. is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd chief minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999,and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He served as the deputy chief minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular). He also served as the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions,from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.

Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy is an Indian politician and film producer who is serving as the Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel of India since 10 June 2024. He also served as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2018 to 2019 and previously from 2006 to 2007. He was also the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2014. He is currently the president of the Karnataka State Janata Dal (Secular). He is a member of Lok Sabha,having been elected from Mandya and the former member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Channapatna from 2018 to 2024,Ramanagara from 2004 to 2009 and from 2013 to 2018. He is the son of former prime minister of India &former Chief Minister of Karnataka H. D. Deve Gowda.
Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa,often referred to by his initials BSY,is an Indian politician. He is been serving as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Parliamentary board committee since 17 August 2022,which is considered the highest office of authority in the party. He served as the 13th Chief Minister of Karnataka,and he was former Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly between 1983 - 2022 in different timelines. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is also the only politician in Karnataka so far to have served four times as the Chief Minister and three times as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is the longest serving BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is former MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district,from where he has been elected eight times.
Devaragunda Venkappa Sadananda Gowda is an Indian politician who served as the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of India in the Second Modi ministry from 14 November 2018 to 7 July 2021. He also served as the Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation of India from 5 July 2016 to 24 May 2019 in the First Modi ministry. On the night of 11 August and the early hours of 12 August 2020,violent clashes took place around the residence of a legislator and the police stations of KG Halli and DJ Halli of the Indian city of Bangalore,Karnataka. A group of Muslims,angered by a Facebook post on Muhammad allegedly shared by Akhanda Srinivas Murthy's nephew,a state legislator of the Indian National Congress,arrived at his house in protest,which later turned violent.

Operation Lotus refers to "poaching" or "bribing" of MLAs and MPs of other parties by the BJP,mainly of their rival the Indian National Congress party (INC),often to form government in states where they do not have the majority.
The 2021 anti-Christian violence in Karnataka refers to the series violence against Christians by right wing Hindutva groups in the Indian state of Karnataka in 2021. The attacks increased after September 2021 when leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared of an "anti-conversion bill" in the state to check religious conversions. The violence again intensified over the Christmas period when right-wing mobs disrupted Christmas celebrations. The Human rights organisation,People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) documented 39 violent incidents against Christians in Karnataka from January to November 2021,all carried out by Hindutva organizations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),Hindu Jagrana Vedike,Bajrang Dal,and Banjara Nigama. The violence included physical assaults,sexual assaults against women,church vandalism,filming the attacks and later circulating the videos to celebrate.
H. D. Thammaiah is an Indian politician from Karnataka. He is an MLA from Chikmagalur Assembly constituency in Chikmagalur district representing Indian National Congress. He won the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election.
