Aveyron Department of France

Aveyron is a department located in the north of the Occitanie region of southern France named after the Aveyron River.

In the administrative divisions of France, the department is one of the three levels of government below the national level, between the administrative regions and the commune. Ninety-six departments are in metropolitan France, and five are overseas departments, which are also classified as regions. Departments are further subdivided into 334 arrondissements, themselves divided into cantons; the last two have no autonomy, and are used for the organisation of police, fire departments, and sometimes, elections.

Large river gorges cut through the plateau, such as the Tarn, Dourbie, Jonte, Lot and Aveyron. Causse is an Occitan word meaning "limestone plateau".

The arrondissement of Millau is an arrondissement of France in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region. Since the January 2017 reorganization of the arrondissements of Aveyron, it has 110 communes.

The arrondissement of Rodez is an arrondissement of France in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region. Since the January 2017 reorganization of the arrondissements of Aveyron, it has 79 communes.

The cheese has a fat content of 45% and is aged for 3–6 months in Gorges du Tarn's natural limestone caves. Le Pouget (power station)

Le Pouget is a hydroelectric power station located at Le Truel, on the River Tarn, in the department of Aveyron in France. It uses the difference in height between the artificial lakes of Villefranche-de-Panat and Pareloup on the Lévézou plateau and the river 500 m below. It ranks as the 16th largest station in France. It is part of the complex system that connects the rivers Alrance, Ceor, Viaur, Bage and Violou with the Tarn.

The Lévézou is a geographical region in the Aveyron department in southern France. It is an impervious crystalline plateau with an average altitude of around 900m. Its highest point is Mont Seigne. Though its borders are not strictly defined, it is bounded in the south and east by the River Tarn and to the north by the Viaur. To the west it merges into the Ségala.
