Cornwall Services is a service station on the A30 near Bodmin, Cornwall, England.
After construction began in early 2013, Cornwall Services opened on 1 July 2014 as part of the first phase of a wider project. [1] It served 600,000 vehicles in its first year of operation, with this number doubling to 1.2 million vehicles annually by 2024; more than 10 million people went to the services in its first 10 years. [2]
At the time of its opening the service station only had two big brands: Costa Coffee and McDonald's. Other brands which have opened there since include Greggs and Subway in 2020 and Co-op in 2021. There are also a number of shops at the services, including Saltrock which opened in 2019 and Mountain Warehouse which opened in 2022. Additionally, the service station is home to some local businesses such as Mango Surfing, Miami's, Rowe's Cornish Bakers and Teddy Freddy's Barber Hut. [3] In 2015, the public Quick Charger for electric vehicles (EVs) in Cornwall was installed by Ecotricity at the services. It was opened on 16 January as part of an exhibition of Kia, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Renault's latest EVs hosted by ecodrive at the services. [4] In 2023, the service station's fuel station was rebranded from BP to Shell Cornish Gateway. [5] The services became the home of Cornwall's first Taco Bell in 2023. [6] GRIDSERVE opened a UK-first EV charging station at the services in 2023, including 12 chargers and a solar canopy. [7]
Phase 2 of the services was confirmed in 2015 on the services' first anniversary, with construction of a 70-bed hotel with a restaurant, a tourist information centre, a dog walking area and an outdoor picnic and play area starting in early 2016. Between its opening and this announcement, two leisure facilities opened at the site in May 2015: a Clip 'n 'Climb climbing centre and a soft play centre. [8] However, the Clip 'n' Climb centre was dismantled and moved to a holiday park near Newquay in 2021. [9] Work on Cornwall's first Holiday Inn Express began at the services in early 2019, with a hotel including 71 rooms and a bar and eating area being built to the left of the main building. [10]
The service station has received praise. A Mercedes-Benz dealership describing it as 'one of the very best in the country'. [11] In 2021, the service station was awarded Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Award for the second consecutive year, [12] an award that is given to the top 10% of all Tripadvisor listings. A 2024 study revealed that the services' McDonald's restaurant was the highest rated by Google reviewers in the UK, with 52.42% leaving five-star reviews. [13]

The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a standard for charging electric vehicles. It can use Combo 1 (CCS1) or Combo 2 (CCS2) connectors to provide power at up to 500 kilowatts (kW). These two connectors are extensions of the IEC 62196 Type 1 and Type 2 connectors, with two additional direct current (DC) contacts to allow high-power DC fast charging. Mercedes-EQ is a series of battery electric vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. The first model was previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 2016 with the Generation EQ concept vehicle. The adoption of electric vehicles in Hong Kong is actively supported by the Hong Kong government, which recognizes battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and conventional hybrid electric vehicles to be environmentally friendly and eligible for financial incentives. The adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in Australia is driven mostly by state-based electric vehicle targets and monetary incentives to support the adoption and deployment of low- or zero-emission vehicles. The monetary incentives include electric vehicle subsidies, interest-free loans, registration exemptions, stamp duty exemptions, the luxury car tax exemption and discounted parking for both private and commercial purchases. Electrify America, LLC is an electric vehicle DC fast-charging network in the United States, with more than 950 stations and over 4,250 DC fast charging connectors as of August 2024. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group of America, established in late 2016 by the automaker as part of its efforts to offset emissions in the wake of the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Volkswagen, as part of its settlement following the "Dieselgate" emissions scandal, invested $2 billion in creating Electrify America. In June 2022, Siemens became a minority shareholder of the company. Electrify America supports the CCS and CHAdeMO connector types with plans to add NACS connectors starting in 2025. Electrify America has been the target of significant criticism for the perceived lack of reliability and maintenance of its stations.
Gridserve Sustainable Energy Limited, stylised as GRIDSERVE, is a British company founded in 2017 to develop, own and operate critical infrastructure for sustainable energy production. Gridserve opened the UK's first all-electric car charging forecourt in 2020, with the second opening in April 2022 and plans to introduce several more in the coming years to charge electric vehicles with 100% renewable energy, supporting the UK's transition to carbon neutrality. The company capitalises its name.

Developed by Tesla, Inc., it has been used by all North American market Tesla vehicles since 2021 and was opened for use by other manufacturers in November 2022. It is backwards compatible with the proprietary Tesla connectors made before 2021.

Unveiled at the 2022 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show as part of the Mercedes-EQ series, it is a proof of concept, with Mercedes-Benz's primary goal being a target of below 10 kWh per 100 km in real-life conditions. The EQXX's exterior features various stylistic cues that help maximise its aerodynamic efficiency, and numerous eco-friendly materials that adorn the interior. The car's name refers to Mercedes' vision for the future of automobile manufacturing, with Mercedes chairman Ola Källenius stating that the EQXX is "how we imagine the future of electric cars", and that the car "underlines where our entire company is headed".
