Dana, Wyoming (Dana coal stop) is a former train stop and coal station on the First transcontinental railroad west of the city of Hanna, Wyoming in Carbon County. The Dana elevation is 6,818 ft (2,078 m). It was served by the Union Pacific Railroad and used as a coal loading stop. The stop was 7 miles west of Hanna, Wyoming, also on the Union Pacific Railroad's. From 1888 to 1891 Dana was a Union Pacific Coal Company (UPCC) mining town. Union Pacific Coal Company hired Black men to work in the Dana coal mine. There is no trace of Dana today, and the coal mines are all closed. Just east of Dana and west of Hama is the Union Pacific ghost town of Percy. [1] [2] [3] [4] . In 1868, the Union Pacific Railroad arrived at Dana as part of the first transcontinental railroad. [5] [6] [7] The ruins of the town and the mine were used as an outlaw hideout by the Dana Gang in 1888 and Horace G. Lovett in 1934. With the opening of the Lincoln Highway, a gas station ran at Dana till the end of the 1940s. When Interstate 80 bypassed Dana, the town disappeared. [8]

The Union Pacific Railroad used the site as a train stop, as Dana was a stagecoach stop on the Overland Trail Route, the Overland Stage Line. [9] [10] [11]
