Estebanía is a small town about a 10-minute drive from the city of Azua de Compostela in the Azua Province of the Dominican Republic. The town is close to another municipality named Las Charcas. The municipality covers an area of 187.27 km².^[1]

Azua is a province of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is a country located in the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. It occupies the eastern five-eighths of the island, which it shares with the nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands, along with Saint Martin, that are shared by two sovereign states. The Dominican Republic is the second-largest Caribbean nation by area at 48,671 square kilometers (18,792 sq mi), and third by population with approximately 10 million people, of which approximately three million live in the metropolitan area of Santo Domingo, the capital city.

Las Charcas is a town in the Azua province of the Dominican Republic. As per a 2012 census, it had 9,254 inhabitants.

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two opposing teams who take turns batting and fielding. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball which a player on the batting team tries to hit with a bat. The objectives of the offensive team are to hit the ball into the field of play, and to run the bases—having its runners advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called "runs". The objective of the defensive team is to prevent batters from becoming runners, and to prevent runners' advance around the bases. A run is scored when a runner legally advances around the bases in order and touches home plate. The team that scores the most runs by the end of the game is the winner.

History

Estebanía was made a municipal district of Azua de Compostela in 1997 and then it was elevated to the category of municipality of the Azua province in 2001.

Economy

The main economic activity of the municipality is agriculture. The town is growing economically due to the support of Dominican emigrants living in the United States. Most of the emigrants live in New York City, particularly Washington Heights, the Bronx, Queens, and the suburbs of New Jersey and Long Island. However, many others live in Miami, Boston and other parts of the Northeastern United States.

Agriculture is the science and art of cultivating plants and livestock. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities. The history of agriculture began thousands of years ago. After gathering wild grains beginning at least 105,000 years ago, nascent farmers began to plant them around 11,500 years ago. Pigs, sheep and cattle were domesticated over 10,000 years ago. Plants were independently cultivated in at least 11 regions of the world. Industrial agriculture based on large-scale monoculture in the twentieth century came to dominate agricultural output, though about 2 billion people still depended on subsistence agriculture into the twenty-first.

Men in the town are typically farmers, while women are almost strictly housewives. However, women from poorer families work outside the house, either selling fresh produce or as maids in the homes of others.

A farmer is a person engaged in agriculture, raising living organisms for food or raw materials. The term usually applies to people who do some combination of raising field crops, orchards, vineyards, poultry, or other livestock. A farmer might own the farmed land or might work as a laborer on land owned by others, but in advanced economies, a farmer is usually a farm owner, while employees of the farm are known as farm workers, or farmhands. However, in the not so distant past, a farmer was a person who promotes or improves the growth of by labor and attention, land or crops or raises animals.

A housewife is a woman whose work is running or managing her family's home—caring for her children; buying, cooking, and storing food for the family; buying goods that the family needs for everyday life; housekeeping, cleaning and maintaining the home; and making, buying and/or mending clothes for the family—and who is not employed outside the home. A housewife who has children may be called a stay-at-home mother or mom and a househusband may be called a male homemaker or stay-at-home father.

Produce is a generalized term for a group of farm-produced crops and goods, including fruits and vegetables –grains, oats etc. are also sometimes considered produce. More specifically, the term "produce" often implies that the products are fresh and generally in the same state as where they were harvested. In supermarkets, the term is also used to refer to the section where fruit and vegetables are kept. Produce is the main product sold by greengrocers and farmers' markets. The term "produce" is commonly used in the U.S. but is not typically used outside the agricultural sector in other English-speaking countries.

Azua de Compostela, also known simply as Azua, is a municipality (municipio) and capital of Azua Province in the Dominican Republic. It is located 100 kilometres west of the national capital, Santo Domingo.
