Andriy Mykolayovych Shevchenko is a Ukrainian former professional football player and manager. Shevchenko played as a striker for Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan, Chelsea and the Ukraine national team. He was most recently head coach of Serie A club Genoa. Shevchenko is considered one of the greatest strikers of all time and Ukraine's greatest ever player. Football Club Dynamo Kyiv, also known as FC Dynamo Kiev, Dynamo Kyiv, Dynamo Kiev, or simply Dynamo, is a Ukrainian professional football club based in Kyiv. The Ukrainian Premier League or UPL is the highest division of Ukrainian annual football championship. Originally known as the Vyshcha Liha it was formed in 1991 during the 1992 Ukrainian football championship upon discontinuation of the 1991 Soviet football championship and included the Ukraine-based clubs that competed previously in the Soviet top three tiers competitions as well as better clubs of the Ukrainian republican competitions. The initial season of the league featured six former Soviet Top League clubs among which were Dynamo, Shakhtar, Chornomorets, Dnipro, Metalist, Metalurh as well as four more clubs that previously also competed at the top league.

The 2004–05 UEFA Champions League was the 50th season of UEFA's premier European club football tournament, and the 13th since it was rebranded as the UEFA Champions League in 1992. The competition was won by Liverpool, who beat Milan on penalties in the final, having come back from 3–0 down at half-time. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was named as UEFA's Footballer of the Year for his key role in the final and throughout the Champions League season. The final, played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, is often regarded as one of the best in the history of the tournament.

The 2021–22 season was the 95th season in the existence of FC Dynamo Kyiv and the club's 31st consecutive season in the top flight of Ukrainian football. In addition to the domestic league, Dynamo Kyiv participated in this season's editions of the Ukrainian Cup, the Ukrainian Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

The 2022–23 season was the 96th season in the history of FC Dynamo Kyiv and their 32nd consecutive season in the top flight. The club participated in the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
