Mohammed Thambi Hasen Ali (Hasan Ali) is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
In January 2003 Ali was elected secretary general of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). [1]
Ali was appointed as the SLMC's National List MP in the Sri Lankan Parliament in April 2004. He resigned from Parliament in April 2008 to contest the Eastern Provincial Council elections. [2] He was subsequently elected to EPC from Ampara district but resigned in July 2008. [3] He was then reappointed as SLMC's National List MP.
Ali was appointed a United National Front National List MP in April 2010.
The National Unity Alliance is a political alliance in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1999,the alliance ceased to exist in 2010 when its remaining members joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. However,Azath Salley subsequently assumed leadership of the party and the party is presently active.
The Sri Lanka Eastern Provincial Council elections,2008 was held on May 10,2008 to elect members to Sri Lanka’s Eastern Provincial Council. Following the successful completion of local government elections in the Batticaloa District,Sri Lanka’s Elections Department announced on March 14 that the elections for the Eastern Provincial Council were to be held in May,after a lapse of 20 years. It was only the second time direct elections are held to select members for the council,and first time for the Eastern Provincial Council alone,after it was separated from the North-Eastern Provincial Council in 2006.
