The Political Rowdyism and hooliganism have been the order of the day then. It was in this context that this former Chief Minister of Eastern PC Nazeer Ahamed verbally abused a Navy officer in public, after accusing him of failing to understand protocol. This ugly incident occurred at an event held last week during the opening ceremony of a science lab and computer unit at the Sampur Maha Vidyalayam, in the presence of the Governor Austin Fernando and the US Ambassador as well.

The 2022 Sri Lankan political crisis is an ongoing political crisis in Sri Lanka due to the power struggle between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Parliament of Sri Lanka. The crisis was fuelled by the anti-government protests and demonstrations by the public and also due to the worsening Economy of Sri Lanka since 2019. The anti-government sentiment across various parts of Sri Lanka has triggered an unprecedented political instability creating shockwaves in political arena.

Third Gotabaya Rajapaska cabinet

The third Gotabaya Rajapaksa cabinet is the incumbent central government of Sri Lanka led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. It was formed in April 2022 after the mass resignation of the previous cabinet. As of 21 April 2022, the cabinet had 19 members – the president, prime minister and 17 ministers. There are also 27 state ministers who are not members of the cabinet. One cabinet minister is also a state minister.
