It was in this context that this former Chief Minister of Eastern PC Nazeer Ahamed verbally abused a Navy officer in public, after accusing him of failing to understand protocol. This ugly incident occurred at an event held last week during the opening ceremony of a science lab and computer unit at the Sampur Maha Vidyalayam, in the presence of the Governor Austin Fernando and the US Ambassador as well.

The third Gotabaya Rajapaksa cabinet is the incumbent central government of Sri Lanka led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. It was formed in April 2022 after the mass resignation of the previous cabinet. As of 21 April 2022, the cabinet had 19 members – the president, prime minister and 17 ministers. There are also 27 state ministers who are not members of the cabinet. One cabinet minister is also a state minister.
