Akila Saliya Ellawala (born 6 January 1976) is a Sri Lankan politician,former provincial councillor and Member of Parliament. [1]
Ellawala was born on 6 January 1976. [1] He is the son of Mohan Ellawala,former Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa Province. [2] He has a Bachelor of Commerce,Specialised in Human Resources Management and Marketing from Deakin University,Melbourne,Australia. [1] He was the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's organiser for Ratnapura District and vice-chairman of the state-owned State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka. [3] [4]
Ellawala was a member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. [5] He contested the 2015 parliamentary election as one of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) electoral alliance's candidates in Ratnapura District but failed to get elected after coming 9th amongst the UPFA candidates. [6] [7] [8] He contested the 2020 parliamentary election as a Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance electoral alliance candidate in Ratnapura District and was elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Dinesh Chandra Rupasinghe Gunawardena is a Sri Lankan politician serving as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka since 22 July 2022. He also holds the positions of Minister of Public Administration,Home Affairs,Provincial Councils and Local Government. Gunawardena has been leader of the left-wing Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) party since 1983,was briefly the de facto leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna from 2022 to 2023,and has taken cabinet positions under several previous governments,including Leader of the House from 2020 until 2022.
