Udaya Prabath Gammanpila (born 6 February 1970) is a Sri Lankan nationalist politician. By profession,he is a computer engineer,[ citation needed ] a lawyer and a politician. He is a former Minister of Energy and Member of Sri Lanka Parliament for Colombo District.
He has also worked as the former minister in the Western province and carried out the ministerial portfolio as the government's Cabinet minister for Buddhism and Religious affairs. He was elected as a Member of Parliament with 198,818 preferential votes from the Colombo District at the General Election held on 17 August 2015. He is also the leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya political party. [1]
Udaya Gammanpila was born at Nawalapitiya on 6 February 1970. He attended D. S. Senanayake College,Colombo for his secondary education,where he passed the GCE A/L examination in 1988 and won a scholarship from the Australian government to study for a degree in computer science at Monash University.[ citation needed ] In 1993,while in his fourth year,he was appointed as an assistant lecturer at the university. Upon his return to Sri Lanka in 1994,he joined the Australia-Lanka Group as an Apprentice Manager and two years later became the Director and CEO of the group.[ citation needed ] Gammanpila,studied law at the Sri Lanka Law College,passed the law examination in 2003 and was sworn in as a lawyer.[ citation needed ]
Gammanpila entered politics in 2000 as a founding member of the Sinhala nationalist political party,Sihala Urumaya. Gammanpila was appointed as the party's propaganda secretary in 2001 and later became its deputy general secretary.[ citation needed ] In 2007,he was appointed as the chairman of the Central Environmental Authority by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Gammanpila also served as a member of the All-Party Representatives Committee appointed by the President to resolve the North-East crisis in August of that year.[ citation needed ] In 2009,he voluntarily resigned as chairman of the Central Environmental Authority to contest for the Western Provincial Council. He was elected and sworn in as the Minister of Agriculture,Irrigation,Industries and Environment of the Western Province.[ citation needed ]
Gammanpila was appointed as the Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority in 2007,where he implemented the Pilisaru Waste Management Project and the Fuel Generation of Plastic Waste project.[ citation needed ]
He served as the Minister of Agriculture under the Goviriya Aruna program,aimed at increasing the productivity of agriculture through mechanisation of agriculture,resulting in the Ministry being awarded the ISO 9001-2008 certification by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution in 2013.[ citation needed ]
Gammanpila contested the 2015 parliamentary election from the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA),receiving 198,818 preferential votes in his first parliamentary election.[ citation needed ]

Since 2002 Gammanpila has been a frequent contributor to newspapers and has published weekly columns for Lankadeepa in Sinhala under the name “Pradeepa”in Sinhala and from 2012,Ceylon Today in English as Guard Post. His latest book is Mahinda Sulagin Gotabhishekayata,which features the behind-the-scenes story of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa entry into politics and power.[ citation needed ]
The United National Party is a centre-right political party in Sri Lanka. Mallawa Arachchige Gamini Jayawickrama Perera was a Sri Lankan politician. He was a United National Party member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka for the Kurunegala District between 1994 and 2020, and had previously represented Katugampola in the National State Assembly from 1977 to 1989. Perera served many cabinet positions in various Sri Lankan governments, including being the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Minister of Wayamba Development, Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Minister of Food Security and the Minister of Irrigation and Water Management. Perera also briefly left national politics to become the Chief Minister of the North Western Province and serve in the North Western Provincial Council. Perera helped represent Sri Lanka's interests internationally as the chairman of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, a position he was elected to in April 2016. Furthermore, he held the position of chairman of the United National Party during a significant period of his career.
Maithripala Yapa Sirisena is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the seventh president of Sri Lanka from 9 January 2015 to 18 November 2019. Sirisena is Sri Lanka's first president from the North Central Province of the country and does not belong to the traditional Sri Lankan political elite. He entered as a member of parliament from Polonnaruwa back in 2020 and ended his tenure in 2024.

He previously served as the Minister of Plantation Industries, Minister of Industries and Minister of Education.He belongs to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. He was educated at Richmond College, Galle and University of Peradeniya. He is a physician by profession and is the son of former Education and Higher Education minister Richard Pathirana.
Wimalaweera Dissanayake (Sinhala: විමලවීර දිසානායක) is a Sri Lankan politician and current member of parliament for Digamadulla District. He was elected on 18 August 2015 from United People's Freedom Alliance. After the 2019 Presidential election, the newly elected president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa appointed him as state minister of wildlife on 27 November 2019, and he was once again appointed to the same post after the cabinet stepped down in the 2022 crisis. He served from 18 April 2022 until 9 May 2022 following another mass resignation of the Sri Lankan cabinet.
The Sri Lanka People's Front, commonly known by its Sinhalese name Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), is a political party in Sri Lanka. It was the ruling party in Sri Lanka from 2019 to 2022 and was the largest party in parliament from 2020 to 2024. Previously a minor political party known as the Sri Lanka National Front (SLNF) and Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front (OSLFF), it was relaunched in 2016 as the SLPP and the party became the base for members of the United People's Freedom Alliance loyal to its former leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Rajapaksa family.

The Uttara Lanka Sabhagaya or Supreme Lanka Coalition is a political alliance in Sri Lanka formed in 2022. The coalition is made up of seven Sri Lankan leftist and nationalist parties who were formerly part of the SLPP-led Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance, before defecting to the opposition amidst the 2022 economic crisis and political crisis. The first conference of the alliance was held on 4 September 2022. Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) and former cabinet minister Wimal Weerawansa is the chairman of the Supreme Lanka Coalition.
