Abdul Hameed Mohamed Fowzie (born 13 October 1937) is a Sri Lankan politician,a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and a former government minister. He served as Mayor of Colombo between 1974 and 1977. Fowzie was a parliament member from 1996, [1] representing the United National Party,but later joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
In 2009 he was injured while walking with a crowd in the Akuressa suicide bombing. He joined the National Government of Sri Lanka led by the United National Party as the Minister of Disaster Management.
He re-entered parliament in 2023,after being elected as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya representative from the Colombo District,following the resignation of Mujibur Rahman,who ran for Colombo mayor. [2]
On 27 August 2024,the Colombo High Court sentenced Fowzie to two years of rigorous imprisonment,which was suspended for ten years after he pleaded guilty to misusing a company vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Disaster Management. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 400,000. [3]

Dinesh Chandra Rupasinghe Gunawardena is a Sri Lankan politician who served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2022 to 2024. He also held the positions of Minister of Public Administration,Home Affairs,Provincial Councils and Local Government. Gunawardena has been leader of the left-wing Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) party since 1983,was briefly the de facto leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna from 2022 to 2023,and has taken cabinet positions under several previous governments,including Leader of the House from 2020 until 2022.
Mallawa Arachchige Gamini Jayawickrama Perera was a Sri Lankan politician. He was a United National Party member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka for the Kurunegala District between 1994 and 2020,and had previously represented Katugampola in the National State Assembly from 1977 to 1989. Perera served many cabinet positions in various Sri Lankan governments,including being the Minister of Buddha Sasana,Minister of Wayamba Development,Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife,Minister of Food Security and the Minister of Irrigation and Water Management. Perera also briefly left national politics to become the Chief Minister of the North Western Province and serve in the North Western Provincial Council. Perera helped represent Sri Lanka's interests internationally as the chairman of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific,a position he was elected to in April 2016. Furthermore,he held the position of chairman of the United National Party during a significant period of his career.
Maithripala Yapa Sirisena is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the seventh president of Sri Lanka from 9 January 2015 to 18 November 2019. Sirisena is Sri Lanka's first president from the North Central Province of the country and does not belong to the traditional Sri Lankan political elite. He entered as a member of parliament from Polonnaruwa back in 2020 and ended his tenure in 2024.
