Galle electoral district was an electoral district of Sri Lanka between August 1947 and February 1989. The district was named after the town of Galle in Galle District,Southern Province. The 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka introduced the proportional representation electoral system for electing members of Parliament. The existing 160 mainly single-member electoral districts were replaced with 22 multi-member electoral districts. Galle electoral district was replaced by the Galle multi-member electoral district at the 1989 general elections,the first under the proportional representation system,Galle continues to be a polling division of the multi-member electoral district.

The league was intended to commence in 2018,but repeatedly postponed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The inaugural edition took place in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2022 Lanka Premier League also known as Mazaplay LPL T20,for sponsorship reasons,was the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. It was originally scheduled to take place from 31 July to 21 August 2022 with Sri Lanka Cricket initially having promised to conduct LPL tournament targeting the August window. The ODI series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka were scrapped due to the hosting of this tournament. However,in July 2022,the tournament was postponed due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka,with the aim to play it later in 2022. The tournament was later rescheduled and held from 6 to 23 December 2022. The tournament also emphasized to promote and boost both the economy and international tourism.
The 2023 Lanka Premier League also known as Skyfair.news LPL T20,for sponsorship reasons,was the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL),a Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. It began on 30 July and the final was held on 20 August 2023. The tournament was played by five teams in three international venues. The league was organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket. Jaffna Kings were the defending champions. This was the first Lanka Premier League season to feature an auction as the previous editions used to have the draft to choose players.
The 2024 Lanka Premier League was the fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL),a Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. The league was organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket. The tournament began on 1 July and the final was played on 21 July 2024. Five franchise teams took part in a double round-robin league followed by a playoffs. Kandy Falcons,formerly known as B-Love Kandy,were the defending champions.
