Jagat Prakash Nadda (born 2 December 1960) is an Indian politician serving as the president of the Bharatiya Janta Party since 20 January 2020. [1] He was the BJP's working president from June 2019 to January 2020. [2] [3]

Nadda is the former Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare [4] and member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh and Parliamentary Board Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party. [5] Earlier, he was a Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government. [6]

Personal life

A Himachali by origin, Nadda was born on 2 December 1960 to Narain Lall Nadda and Krishna Nadda in Patna, Bihar. [7] [8] He has a brother Jagat Bhushan Nadda. [9] He was educated at St. Xavier's School, Patna. Thereafter he did his B.A. from Patna College, Patna University and LL.B. from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. As a child, he represented Bihar in the All India Junior Swimming Championship held at Delhi. Nadda married Mallika Nadda on 11 December 1991, with whom he has two sons. [8]

Political career

Nadda was first elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the election of 1993, he was subsequently re-elected in 1998.

During his first term, he served as the Leader of his party group in the H.P. Legislative Assembly, from 1994 to 1998. He was the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs during his second term. [10]

Nadda was elected for another term in the 2007 elections. After Prem Kumar Dhumal formed a government, he inducted Nadda in his cabinet, as cabinet minister responsible for Forest, Environment, Science and Technology, from 2008 to 2010. [10]

Nadda did not seek re-election to the Legislative Assembly in 2012, and instead got elected to Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. [10] In 2014, during a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made Nadda, the Minister of Health. [11]

Nadda was appointed as the national working president of the BJP in June 2019. On 20 January 2020, he was elected unanimously as the BJP National President, a role he took from Amit Shah. [12]

Ram Vilas Paswan Indian politician

Ram Vilas Paswan is an Indian politician from Bihar and the current Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Paswan is also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party, eight-time Lok Sabha member and current Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later, he joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974, and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency, and was arrested during the period. 2018 Indian Rajya Sabha elections

Rajya Sabha elections were held in 2018 to elect the 65 retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. There were, as routine, three such elections held among relevant State and Union Territory legislators by single transferable vote (STV) and Open Ballot: on 16 January to elect 3 members from Delhi and 1 member from Sikkim; on 23 March to elect 58 members from 16 States; and lastly on 21 June to elect 3 members from Kerala. Being even-numbered, 2018 was a year in which about 30% of the State Legislature-elected 233-seat component of the body is elected. The other 12 seats of the body are appointed by the President.

Kishan Kapoor is an Indian politician and the member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the sitting Member of parliament, Lok Sabha from Kangra Lok Sabha constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He won the seat by a record margin of votes in the General election 2019. He has won by the margin of 4.77 lakh votes which is the 2nd largest voting percentage at 72.2% all over the country. He previously served as Food, Civil supplies & Consumer Affairs minister in the Himachal Pradesh Government. In the past, he has served three terms as a Cabinet minister and five terms as a member of the legislative assembly representing the Dharamshala assembly constituency. He is one of the senior most Bhartiya Janta Party leaders from the state.

Indu Bala Goswami is an India politician currently She is state president of Bharatiya Janata Party of Himachal pradesh.She was elected to the Rajya Sabha the upper house of Indian Parliament from Himachal Pradesh as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was chairperson of the State Women Commission Himachal Pradesh and State Social Welfare Board Himachal Pradesh.

On 10 March 2020, when Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from Indian National Congress, 22 MLAs who supported him also resigned. They sent their resignations by email to the Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Narmada Prasad Prajapati and Governor Lalji Tandon from the hotel of Bengaluru.

The National Executive of Bharatiya Janata Party is the presidium or the central decision-making assembly of the Bharatiya Janata Party setting the overall strategic direction of the party and policy development. It is composed of members appointed by the BJP president and can have as many as 120 members.
