The Right Reverend John Wellington was an Anglican missionary bishop in China during the first half of the 20th century.
Born into an ecclesiastical family on 28 December 1889, he was the son of the Reverend G. Wellington. [1] Educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Wimborne and at Salisbury Theological College, he was ordained in 1913. He served as curate at St Martin's, Salisbury before heading to China as a missionary. He was in Shantung until 1935 when he returned to England as Vicar of Holy Trinity, Bedford. From 1940 [2] to 1950 he served as the last Anglican Bishop of Shantung (before the Church was nationalised by the Communists). During the Second World War, he was interned by Japanese in China, and released in 1945. [3] Returning to England, he was Vicar of St Germans, Cornwall and Assistant Bishop of Truro; and, in 1953, became Archdeacon of Bodmin. Retiring in 1960, he died on 11 September 1976. [4]
George Uglow Pope, or G. U. Pope, was an Anglican Christian missionary and Tamil scholar who spent 40 years in Tamil Nadu and translated many Tamil texts into English. His popular translations included those of the Tirukkural and Thiruvasagam. He later took to teaching, running his own school in Ootacamund for while and then moving to head the Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bangalore and after returning to England worked as a Lecturer at Balliol College, Oxford. A statue on the Chennai beach recognizes him for his contribution to the understanding and promotion of the Tamil language.

Richard James Wood was a British Anglican bishop and anti-apartheid campaigner. He was ordained in the Church of England and served his curacy in the Diocese of Salisbury. He then moved to South Africa and served in a number of parish posts before becoming the Suffragan Bishop of Damaraland in 1973. He was expelled from South Africa in 1975 for speaking out against the apartheid government. He returned to England permanently in 1977, and became Vicar of St Mary's Church, Hull and chaplain to the University of Hull; during this time, he was also an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of York. His final post before retirement, from 1979 to 1983, was as a member of staff of St Mark's Theological College, Dar es Salaam.

Since March 2019 he has served as an assistant bishop and interim priest-in-charge at St John the Baptist Church in Spalding in the Diocese of Lincoln.
