Jowhar District (Somali : Degmada Jowhar) is a district of the southeastern Middle Shabelle in Somalia. Its capital lies at Jowhar. The district had estimated population of 269,851 as of 2014, a survey was done by (UNDP) in 2014. [1]

Ali Khalif Galaydh was a Somali politician. He was the Prime Minister of the unrecognised Somalia administration from 8 October 2000 to 28 October 2001. Galaydh had extensive experience in public policy, diplomacy, public administration, and business. He taught these subjects at public universities in the United States. Additionally, Galaydh was the President of the Khaatumo state. In 2017, he joined the Somaliland administration after an agreement was signed with the Somaliland government which stipulated the amendment of Somaliland's constitution and to integrate the territory into the Somaliland.

2006 Somali warlord offensive Phase of the Somali Civil War

Between May and July 2006 an offensive took place against the Islamic Courts Union by an alliance of warlords who were trying to seize control of Somalia's capital city, Mogadishu. The Warlord Alliance was funded by the United States. This offensive led to the 2006 Battle of Mogadishu, following which the Islamic Courts Union expanded further in Somalia.

Battle of Jowhar

The Battle of Jowhar was a battle in the 2006 Somali War fought between the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) and affiliated militias against Ethiopian and Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces for control of the town of Jowhar. It began on December 27, 2006, when retreating ICU forces regrouped near their stronghold of Jowhar. It became the last major town and strategic stronghold of the ICU to fall to Ethiopian and TFG forces before the latter overtook Mogadishu two days later.

Mohamed Omar Habeb, commonly known as Mohamed Dheere or Mohamed Dhere, was a Somali faction leader based out of the city of Jowhar. He hailed from the Abgaal subclan of Hawiye. He also had significant influence on the northern parts of the capital Mogadishu where he controlled a militia of around 400 men.

The Hawadle or Xawaadle are a Somali clan who traces its descent from Mayle, one of the sons of Samaale clan. The Hawadle, as well as many other Somali clans like the Hawiye and Dir, trace themselves from Samaale.

Battle for Central Somalia (2009)

The Central Somalia Spring Fighting of 2009 was a series of battles in Hiraan, Shabeellaha Dhexe and Galgudug between rebels of al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam and government forces and ICU militants loyal to the government, during spring 2009 as well as pro-government militia of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah. The fighting led to al-Shabaab capturing major government strongholds and Ethiopian forces re-entering Somalia and setting up bases in Hiraan. There was a halt in fighting during a government offensive in Mogadishu, which started on May 22.

Railway transport in Somalia consisted of the erstwhile Mogadishu–Villabruzzi Railway and secondary tracks. The system was built during the 1910s by the authorities in Italian Somaliland. Its track gauge was 950 mm, a gauge favoured by the Italians in their colonies in the Horn of Africa and North Africa. The railway was dismantled in the 1940s by the British during their military occupation of Italian Somaliland, and was subsequently never rehabilitated.
