Bardhere District (Somali : Degmada Bardhere) is a district in the southwestern Gedo region of Somalia. It was first made a political district in 1941.[ citation needed ] A decade and a half later, during the 1956 general elections, a Somali parliament was voted to be put into place by 1960, once independence would be achieved.[ citation needed ] All elected Gedo Representatives were elected from the districts of Bardhere and Luuq.[ citation needed ]

Bardere sits on the Jubba River around 250 km west of the city of Baidoa and is in a highland area with fertile soil.

The 2006 Islamic Courts Union offensive is the period in the Somali Civil War that began in May 2006 with the Islamic Courts Union's (ICU) conquest of Mogadishu from the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism (ARPCT) and continued with further ICU expansion in the country.
