Hodan District (Somali : Degmada Hodan) is a district in the southeastern Banaadir region of Somalia. It is a neighborhood in the northwestern part of Mogadishu. This district as well as the bordering Deeynile district are a part of the traditional Territory of the Murusade clan.
On October 14, 2017, there were two truck bombings in the Hodan District, which killed at least 587 people in total and destroyed a hotel.
Banaadir is an administrative region (gobol) in southeastern Somalia. It covers the same area as the city of Mogadishu, which serves as the capital. It is the only region in the country not belonging to any of the six states. It is bordered to the northwest by the Shabelle river, and to the southeast by the Indian Ocean. Although by far the smallest administrative region in Somalia, it has the largest population, estimated at 1,650,227 in 2014.

It is home to a wide variety of wild animals, including the Big Five game animals. The vegetation in Afmadow consists of rich grassland, bounded by semi-desert. It is located northwest of Kismayo. The distance between Afmadow and Kismayo is 110 kilometers or 68 miles.

Being the best known football team in Somalia, it competes in the top level of the Somali National League, Locally, it is known primarily by the nickname "The Yellows", which describes the color the team wear's. The Battle of Mogadishu (2009) started in May with an Islamist offensive, when rebels from al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam attacked and captured government bases in the capital of Mogadishu. The fighting soon spread, causing hundreds of casualties, and continued on at various levels of intensity until October. The battle's name usually includes the year, when referenced, in order to distinguish it amongst the nine major Battles of Mogadishu during the decades long Somali Civil War.
Garowe District is a district in the northeastern Nugal region of Puntland, a state with a high degree of autonomy within the Federal Republic of Somalia. The district capital is Garowe. Garowe's district status is two-pronged: Garowe is both a district in Somalia's federal administrative system, and a district in Puntland's own -overlapping- system of administrative subdivisions. In both systems Garowe is also the capital of the entire Nugal Region. But the borders of Nugal and the districts within that region are different in both systems. In the federal system the Garowe District is one of Nugal's 3 districts; in Puntland's system it is one of Nugal's 5 districts.

On 27 March 2015, Al-Shabaab militants launched an attack on the Makka al-Mukarama hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia. The siege ended a few hours later on 28 March, after the National Intelligence and Security Agency's Gaashaan unit stormed the premises, recaptured it, and killed all five of the attackers. According to the Ministry of Information, around 20 people died during the standoff, including the perpetrators, security forces, hotel security guards and some civilians, with around 28 wounded. The special forces also rescued more than 50 hotel guests. President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ordered an investigation into the attack, and the Ministry of Information announced that the federal government was slated to pass new laws to curb illicit firearms. On 8 May, the Makka al-Mukarama hotel officially reopened after having undergone renovations.
The Somali Museum of Minnesota is a cultural institution in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro area is home to the largest Somali immigrant and refugee population in the United States, after civil war in Somalia prompted large-scale displacement of the Somali people. The Somali Museum of Minnesota presents a collection of more than 1000 traditional nomadic artifacts from Somalia, as well as educational programming about Somali culture, arts events, and cross-cultural activities. It may now be the only museum in the world dedicated to preserving Somali culture and traditions.
Elmi Boodhari was a Somali poet and pioneer in the genre of Somali love poems. He is known among Somalis as the King of Romance. He was born near the border between Ethiopia and Somaliland in 1908 and hailed from the Eidagale sub-clan.
The 2013 Mogadishu Turkish embassy attack occurred on 27 July 2013 when al-Shaabab militants attacked the Turkish embassy in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, killing 3 people and injuring 9 others. At around 5:00 p.m. a minivan rigged with explosives detonated near the embassy compound. The explosion was followed by three armed militants attempting to storm the compound on foot, but they were repelled and killed by Turkish and Somali security guards.
Hodan Hassan is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2019. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), Hassan represents District 62B, which includes parts of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Hassan served as an assistant majority leader of the House DFL caucus from 2019 to 2020. She announced that she will not seek reelection in 2024.
