Mount Terror is a large shield volcano that forms the eastern part of Ross Island, Antarctica. It has numerous cinder cones and domes on the flanks of the shield and is mostly under snow and ice. It is the second largest of the four volcanoes that make up Ross Island and is somewhat overshadowed by its neighbour, Mount Erebus, 30 km (19 mi) to the west. Mount Terror was named in 1841 by Sir James Clark Ross for his second ship, HMS Terror. The captain of Terror was Francis Crozier, a close friend of Ross for whom the nearby Cape Crozier is named.

Palmer Land is the portion of the Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctica that lies south of a line joining Cape Jeremy and Cape Agassiz. This application of Palmer Land is consistent with the 1964 agreement between the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names and the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee, in which the name Antarctic Peninsula was approved for the major peninsula of Antarctica, and the names Graham Land and Palmer Land for the northern and southern portions, respectively. The line dividing them is roughly 69° S.

Marcala is a town, with a population of 15,050, and a municipality in the Honduran department of La Paz. Anderton Glacier is a tributary glacier, 7 nautical miles (13 km) long, descending the south slopes of the Eisenhower Range to enter Reeves Glacier between Mount Matz and Andersson Ridge, in Victoria Land, Antarctica. The glacier is situated on the Pennell Coast, a portion of Antarctica lying between Cape Williams and Cape Adare. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1955–63, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Peter W. Anderton, a glaciologist at McMurdo Station, summer 1965–66.

Bynum Peak is a rock peak 3 nautical miles (6 km) southeast of Mount Finley, overlooking the north side of McGregor Glacier in the Queen Maud Mountains. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Gaither D. Bynum, a United States Antarctic Research Program satellite geodesist at McMurdo Station, winter 1965.

Kraken Cove is the largest cove at Candlemas Island, South Sandwich Islands, indenting the north coast of the island, just west of Demon Point and north of Gorgon Pool. The name applied by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1971 is that of a legendary Norwegian sea monster, the Kraken.

The Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex, also known as APVC, is a complex of volcanic systems in the Puna of the Andes. It is located in the Altiplano area, a highland bounded by the Bolivian Cordillera Real in the east and by the main chain of the Andes, the Western Cordillera, in the west. It results from the subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate. Melts caused by subduction have generated the volcanoes of the Andean Volcanic Belt including the APVC. The volcanic province is located between 21° S–24° S latitude. The APVC spans the countries of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
