Chongqing is the largest of the four direct-controlled municipalities of the People's Republic of China and is further divided into 26 districts, 8 counties, and 4 autonomous counties.
It had 17 counties until October 2011, when Qijiang County and Wansheng District were merged to form the new Qijiang District, and Dazu County and Shuangqiao District were merged to form the new Dazu District. [1]
From October 2011 to June 2014, Chongqing had 15 counties until Bishan and Tongliang Counties were upgraded into district status. Two further counties were upgraded into district Tongnan and Rongchang Counties were upgraded into districts. In 2016 there additional counties were upgraded into district Kaizhou, Wulong and Liangping.

Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County is an autonomous county for the Miao and Tujia people located in southeastern Chongqing, China, bordering Guizhou province to the south and southwest and Hubei province to the northeast. It is 270 kilometres (170 mi) away from downtown Chongqing.
Tongren is a prefecture-level city in eastern Guizhou province, People's Republic of China, located within a tobacco planting and crop agricultural area. Tongren was known as Tongren Prefecture (铜仁地区) until November 2011, when it was converted into a prefecture-level city.
Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in the mountainous southwestern corner of Hubei province, People's Republic of China. It forms Hubei's southwestern "panhandle", bordering on Hunan in the south and Chongqing Municipality in the west and northwest. The Yangtze River crosses the prefecture's northeastern corner in Badong County.

Changyang Tujia Autonomous County or in Tujia language known as Changryangf Bifzivkar Zivzirxianf is an autonomous county in western Hubei province, People's Republic of China. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yichang.
Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County, formerly Changle County, is a county in the west of Hubei province, People's Republic of China, bordering Hunan province to the south. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yichang. It is twinned with Westfield, Massachusetts, United States.
Qianjiang District, formerly Qianjiang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, is a district, in the southeastern part of Chongqing, China, bordering Hubei province to the east and northeast. While it is governed as a district, in practice Qianjiang is its own city proper far removed from the urban centre of Chongqing. Qianjiang is nicknamed "The Throat of Sichuan and Hubei" (川鄂咽喉) because it sits on the intersection of Sichuan-Hubei and Sichuan-Hunan Roads.

Yudi Township is a township under the administration of Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, Chongqing, China. As of 2020, it has four villages under its administration: Shangyu (上腴), Xiayu (下腴), Gaozhuang (高庄), and Fengjia (丰家).
Shangba Tujia Ethnic Township is a township in Daozhen Gelao and Miao Autonomous County, Guizhou, China. As of the 2016 census it had a population of 18,000 and an area of 99.67-square-kilometre (38.48 sq mi).
