History: before 1912, 1912–49, 1949–present Administrative division codes |
Fujian is a province of China, with the vast majority administered by the People's Republic of China (PRC), and the offshore islands of Kinmen (Quemoy, Jinmen, etc.) and Matsu administered by the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan.
The PRC-administered Fujian Province is made up of three levels of administrative division: prefecture-level, county-level, and township-level. The ROC-administered Fujian consists of 67 counties and 2 cities (Fuzhou and Xiamen). Among the two of its 67 counties are Kinmen and Lienchiang.
All of these administrative divisions are explained in greater detail at administrative divisions of the People's Republic of China. This chart lists only prefecture-level and county-level divisions of Fujian as given by the PRC.
For the list of township-level divisions within each county, see list of township-level divisions of Fujian.

Kinmen (claimed) | Quanzhou |
The Taiwan independence movement is a political movement which advocates the formal declaration of an independent and sovereign Taiwanese state, as opposed to Chinese unification or the status quo in Cross-Strait relations.
Fujian is a province located in South China. Fujian is bordered by Zhejiang to the north, Jiangxi to the west, Guangdong to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the east. Its capital is Fuzhou and its largest prefecture city by population is Quanzhou, other notable cities include the port city of Xiamen and Zhangzhou. Fujian is located on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait as the closest geographically and culturally to Taiwan. Certain islands such as Kinmen are only approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Xiamen in Fujian.
Kinmen, alternatively known as Quemoy, is a group of islands governed as a county by the Republic of China (Taiwan), only 10 km (6.2 mi) east from the city of Xiamen in Fujian, located at the southeastern coast of the People's Republic of China, from which they are separated by Xiamen Bay. Kinmen is also located 187 km (116 mi) west from the closest shoreline of the island of Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan is divided into multi-layered statutory subdivisions. Due to the complex political status of Taiwan, there is a significant difference in the de jure system set out in the original constitution and the de facto system in use today.
The Matsu Islands, officially Lienchiang County, are an archipelago of 36 islands and islets in the East China Sea governed by the Republic of China (Taiwan), situated alongside the southeastern coast of mainland China. The archipelago forms the smallest county in the ROC-controlled territories by area and population, as well as one of two counties that is a part of the nominal Fuchien Province.
ISO 3166-2:TW is the entry for Taiwan, "Taiwan, Province of China", or "Taiwan ", in ISO 3166-2, part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which defines codes for the names of the principal subdivisions of all countries coded in ISO 3166-1.
Provinces are the most numerous type of province-level divisions in the People's Republic of China (PRC). There are currently 22 provinces administered by the PRC and one province that is claimed, but not administered, which is Taiwan, currently administered by the Republic of China (ROC).
Lianjiang is a county on the eastern coast in Fuzhou prefecture-level city, the provincial capital of Fujian Province, China. Most of the county is administered by the People's Republic of China (PRC), while a number of outlying islands, collectively referred to as the Matsu Islands, are administered as Lienchiang County by the Republic of China (ROC) ever since their return to ROC control after Japanese occupation in World War II.
Fuchien Province, also romanized as Fujian and rendered as Fukien, is a de jure administrative division of the Republic of China (ROC). Provinces remain a titular division as a part of the Constitution of the Republic of China, but are no longer considered to have any practical administrative function.
The Taiwan Area, fully the "Taiwan Area of the Republic of China", also the free area of the Republic of China, the "Tai-Min Area ", is a term used to refer to the actual-controlled territories of the Republic of China, usually called "Taiwan". It has been in official use since the Additional articles of the Republic of China constitution took effect to end temporary anti-communist provisions on 1 May 1991. The term is also used in the 1992 Cross-Strait Act.
Taiwan Province refers to a notional administrative division claimed by the People's Republic of China. The PRC constitution asserts Taiwan as part of its territories although the PRC has never controlled Taiwan since the PRC's establishment in 1949. The territory of the claimed province, including the entire island of Taiwan, is in actuality administered by the Republic of China (ROC) but is not coextensive with the smaller Taiwan Province of the ROC.
is a county-level city in northeastern Ningde prefecture-level city, on Fujian's border with Zhejiang province.
Wuqiu is a rural township of Kinmen County (Quemoy), Taiwan (ROC) made up of a group of islands in the Taiwan Strait comprising two major islands, Daqiu and Xiaoqiu. Wuqiu Township is nominally de jure part of Futian County, Fukien of the Republic of China. It is the smallest township in Kinmen County and is located 72 nmi (133 km) northeast of the rest of the county. The township is 73 nmi (135 km) from the Port of Taichung on Taiwan. The closest territory under China (PRC) control is the neighboring Luci Island, Xiuyu District, Putian, Fujian, which is 9 nmi (17 km) to the north-northwest. Greater Qiu Island is the site of the Wuqiu Lighthouse.
Shijing Town is a township-level division of Nan'an City, in southern Fujian Province, China.
Dadeng Subdistrict is a group of three islands under the de facto administration of the People's Republic of China as part of Xiang'an District of Xiamen in southern Fujian, but is also claimed by the Republic of China and historically constituted as an insular subdistrict in Kinmen County (Quemoy).
Tailu is a town in Lianjiang County, Fuzhou, Fujian, China. Tailu is located at the eastern tip of the Huangqi Peninsula / Beijiao Peninsula (北茭半島) and is bordered to the west by the town of Huangqi and to the south by the East China Sea, across which Lienchiang County, Taiwan (ROC) can be seen.
