This is a list of video games for the Nintendo 64 video game console that have sold or shipped at least one million copies. The best-selling game on the Nintendo 64 is Super Mario 64 . First released in Japan on June 23, 1996, it was a launch title for the system and the first Super Mario game to use three-dimensional graphics. The game went on to sell nearly 12 million units worldwide. [1] Mario Kart 64 , the second in the Mario Kart series, is the second-best-selling game on the platform, with sales of more than 9.8 million units. [1] The console's top five is rounded out by Rare's GoldenEye 007 in third, with sales of just over 8 million units, [2] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in fourth, with 7.6 million units sold worldwide, [3] and Super Smash Bros. in fifth, with sales of more than 5.5 million units. There are a total of 49 Nintendo 64 games on this list which are confirmed to have sold or shipped at least one million units. Of these, 13 were developed by internal Nintendo development divisions. Other developers with the most million-selling games include Rare and AKI Corporation, with seven and four games respectively in the list of 49. Of the 49 games on this list, 35 were published in one or more regions by Nintendo. Other publishers with multiple million-selling games include THQ with four games, Rare with three games, and Acclaim Entertainment with two games. The most popular franchises on Nintendo 64 include Pokémon (14.55 million combined units), The Legend of Zelda (10.96 million combined units), Donkey Kong (10.15 million combined units), and Star Wars (7.87 million combined units).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nintendo Selects</span> Marketing label by Nintendo

Nintendo Selects was a marketing label previously used by Nintendo to promote best-selling video games on Nintendo game consoles. Nintendo Selects titles were sold at a lower price point than new releases. The program paralleled other budget range software by Sega, Sony, and Microsoft to promote best-selling games on their consoles as well. In Japan, the discount label was introduced in 2015 for various Nintendo 3DS titles as the Happy Price Selection, although South Korea adopted the Nintendo Selects name at an earlier period. The most recent Nintendo Selects titles were released for the Wii U and 3DS and, as of January 2025, no Nintendo Switch games have been rebranded as Nintendo Selects.

1996 saw many sequels and prequels in video games, such as Super Mario 64, Duke Nukem 3D, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Super Mario RPG, King's Field III, Virtua Fighter 3, along with new titles such as Blazing Heroes, NiGHTS into Dreams..., Crash Bandicoot, Pokémon Red/Green/Blue, Resident Evil, Dead or Alive, Soul Edge, Quake and Tomb Raider.

<i>Kirby</i> (series) Video game series

Kirby is an action-platform video game series developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. The series centers around the adventures of Kirby as he fights to protect and save his home on the distant Planet Popstar from a variety of threats. The majority of the games in the series are side-scrolling platformers with puzzle-solving and beat 'em up elements. Kirby has the ability to inhale enemies and objects into his mouth, spitting them out as a projectile or eating them. If he inhales certain enemies, he can gain the powers or properties of that enemy manifesting as a new weapon or power-up called a Copy Ability. The series is intended to be easy to pick up and play even for people unfamiliar with action games, while at the same time offering additional challenge and depth for more experienced players to come back to.

The Japan Game Awards is the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's awards ceremony, which was created in 1996 as the CESA Awards. While it represents the Japanese video game industry, it is not limited to Japanese video games, but also includes international video games.

<i>Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit</i> 2020 video game

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a 2020 mixed reality kart racing video game developed by Velan Studios and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifteenth installment in the Mario Kart series, announced in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise. Players control toy radio-controlled cars which race around the player's home, streaming video from the onboard camera in the karts into the video game. It received favorable reviews with 1.73 million units sold worldwide as of December 31, 2022.
