P Sara Oval is a sports ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which has hosted international cricket matches, along with many domestic games. It is the home of the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club. [1] It has hosted international cricket matches since 1982, the first Test at the ground taking place in between Sri Lanka and England in February of that year. [2] and has been home to 20 Test matches in total. [3] P Sara Oval has also staged 12 One Day International (ODI) matches, [4] the first of which was in 1983 when the host Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 2 wickets. [5]

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer") [6] [7] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement. [8] The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at P Sara Oval was Derek Underwood in 1982; he finished with bowling figures of 5 wickets for 28 runs. Muttiah Muralitharan currently holds most five-wicket hauls at P Sara Oval, with 4 five-wicket hauls. The best figures in Test cricket at P Sara Oval are 7 for 94, taken by Australia's Shane Warne against Pakistan in October 2002. [9] Kraigg Brathwaite of West Indies has taken the most recent five-wicket haul at P Sara Oval, with figures of 6 wickets for 29 runs against Sri Lanka in 22 October 2015. [10] As of December 2016, fourteen bowlers have taken nineteen Test match five-wicket hauls at the ground. [11]

There are no any ODI five-wicket hauls taken at P Sara Oval until December 2015.

Sri Lanka national cricket team National sports team

The Sri Lanka national men's cricket team, nicknamed The Lions, represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket. It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status. The team first played international cricket in 1926–27, and were later awarded Test status in 1981, which made Sri Lanka the eighth Test cricket playing nation. The team is administered by Sri Lanka Cricket.

Tillakaratne Dilshan Sri Lankan cricketer

Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team. As the best rated Sri Lankan player in run-chases in ODI history, he is often regarded as one of the most innovative ODI batsmen of all time. Dilshan is considered to be a rare example of a cricketer with notable skills in all aspects of the game, who can bat, bowl, field and keep wicket. He is an aggressive right-hand batsman who invented the scoop, which has come to be known as the Dilscoop, a shot that hits the ball over the keeper. Apart from being an opening batsman, he is also a capable off-break bowler. Energetic in the field, he usually fields at the point region.

Mahawaduge Dilruwan Kamalaneth Perera or Dilruwan Perera, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who currently plays for Tests and ODIs. He plays domestically for the Colts Cricket Club. An allrounder, Perera is a right-arm offbreak bowler and right-handed batsman. He is the quickest Sri Lankan bowler to reach both 50 and 100 Test wickets and 100 Test wickets in Sri Lanka. Dilruwan is a past student of Sri Sumangala College.

Hettige Don Rumesh Lahiru Thirimanne, known as Lahiru Thirimanne is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, and a former ODI captain. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, and also acted as the vice-captain of the Sri Lanka One Day International team, when he was dropped from the team after poor performances. He was recalled in 2018 for the national team.

Pathira Vasan Dushmantha Chameera, commonly Dushmantha Chameera, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for all three international formats for Sri Lanka. A right hand fast bowler, Chameera bowls fast swinging balls generally around 145kmh.

Jeffrey Dexter Francis Vandersay, or commonly Jeffrey Vandersay is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer. He is a past student of Wesley College, Colombo.

Muthuthanthrige Vishwa Thilina Fernando, commonly as Vishwa Fernando, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who represents the national side in all three formats.

Pawuluge Malinda Pushpakumara, commonly as Malinda Pushpakumara is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays Test and ODIs. He plays for Colombo Cricket Club in first-class cricket. In January 2019, he took all ten wickets in an innings in a first-class cricket match.

Paththamperuma Arachchige Don Lakshan Rangika Sandakan, commonly known as Lakshan Sandakan, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all three formats of the game. He is a past pupil of De Mazenod College, Kandana.
