[1] The best bowling figures to date were achieved by Muttiah Muralitharan who took 7/26 for Sri Lanka against England in 2003. [7] There have been a total of 48 five-wicket hauls in Test matches at the ground. Muralitharan has taken 11 Test five-wicket hauls, which is the highest by a bowler at Galle.

[8] Since then there have been only single five-wicket haul, which was achieved by Sanath Jayasuriya who took 5/28 for Sri Lanka against Australia in 1989. [9]
