The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university in Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1887 as the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese by the London Missionary Society and formally established as the University of Hong Kong in 1911. It is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong.

Wah Yan College Kowloon is a Catholic secondary school for boys run by the Chinese Province of the Society of Jesus. Arthur Li Kwok-cheung, GBM, GBS JP is a Hong Kong doctor and politician. Tin Shui Wai New Town is a satellite town in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong. Originally a gei wai (基圍) fish pond area, it was developed in the 1980s as the second new town in Yuen Long District and the eighth in Hong Kong. It is 25 kilometres (16 mi) due northwest of Central, the main business area in the territory, on land reclaimed from low-lying areas south of Deep Bay, next to Ping Shan. The population was 292,000 in 2014, while the total projected population for when the town is fully built-out is about 306,000.

Sir Peter William Mathieson is an English nephrologist and current principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh. Previously, he served as the vice-chancellor and president of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Bristol before he assumed office at the HKU in April 2014, and was previously director of studies at Christ's College, Cambridge.
The University of Hong Kong pro-vice-chancellor selection controversy in 2015 surrounded alleged political interference behind the University of Hong Kong governing council's rejection of Johannes Chan's recommended appointment to the post of pro-vice-chancellor in charge of staffing and resources. Chan, dean of the Faculty of Law from 2002 until 2014, was unanimously recommended for the post by a selection committee headed by university president Peter Mathieson. The governing council's decision, the first time that a candidate selected by the committee was rejected, was widely viewed as political retaliation for Chan's involvement with pro-democratic figures including his former subordinate Benny Tai. A majority of HKU Council members are not students or staff of the university, and many are directly appointed by the chief executive of Hong Kong. The decision received international condemnation, and was viewed as part of a Beijing-backed curtailing of academic freedoms that would damage Hong Kong's academic reputation.

The school is a private subsidiary of the publicly-funded University of Hong Kong. Sum Ping Lee is an American physician and gastroenterologist who served as the 39th Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, between 2008 and 2013. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine.
Fung Ping Shan Building is a building of the University of Hong Kong and a declared monument. It is located at 94 Bonham Road, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong on the campus of the University of Hong Kong. It is currently being used as the University Museum and Art Gallery.
